No doubt there will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth among the completists, but I think this is a most excellent pick! The main program is 3-CD's, all from 5/15. The obligatory bonus disc is a combination of 5/15 and the previous night in Kirkwood MO (one of my all-time favorites)

if this was complete and included the new riders, i think it takes 7 cd's. great choice but interesting considering 5/2/70 has been out for a long time. i was always hoping for the 6/9-10/73 shows from washington dc with the allmans. i still have scars from the extreme sunburn over those two scorching daze. of course i'd love to hear my first show from port chester 11/6/70 but i understand they are not in the vault. what a run NOT to have been taped!

  3. This is a really good pick. One can never have enough 1970 live Dead. This appears to be a nice compilation of the highlights from the early and late show, with thankfully lots of acoustic material. "Easy Wind" from these shows is on Fall Out From The Phil Zone, I guess that's the performance that's on the bonus disc? Anyway, this is one for my wishlist.

anyone tried the listening party? Sounds very warbly to me, and usually these things come through crystal clear. I take it this is not how the real recording is going to sound!!

I sometimes hear a bit of digititis when I listen to the Listening Party, which I've never heard on the discs themselves.

    Thanks for the tip.

Another month faced with being shot, divorced or both over my music purchases, that first appear as unbilled activity and later on the credit card statement. My Father's Day present to myself? I hope this one is worth it.

Would have liked to have had "It's a Man's World" from this time period too. More Pigpen please!

A grate choice from one of my favorite years:cheers:.

I'm still hoping that one of these days they'll find buried deep in the vault recordings of those epic 6/24/70 Port Chester, NY shows for a future road trip release.

I think I'm personally funding Bobby's kids' college education with the way I buy a Road Trips every time there's a new release. Yep, bought this one too...

:righton: Great set, but I think this Trip will top it! I seriously can't wait for this, but the Fox Theatre 77 set Musicalbeds sold me is easing the pain wonderfully!

Take out the NRPS and you'll get 5 discs if I checked it out correctly. So, 3 discs plus a bonus disc is 4. They couldn't throw in the extra disc to make it complete?

Yep, I'm complaining again, because they keep getting ALMOST there. Drives me nuts. That being said, however, this is an amazing release and worth every penny!

I jumped on this release pretty fast. While playing on the dead.net site I was looking at the "Workingman's" reissue which has been out for a few years. I find int interesting that the physical CD is $11 (obviously plus shipping)while the lossless and flac are both $15 to download. Why would the downloads cost about the same as the physical HDCD?

Absolutely and fortunately it's already in the collection, and somewhere in the house there's a cassette recording of a KPFA stereo broadcast of the concert tape. Don't know who snagged the original stereo tape.

And then there's my personal audience recording of their Thursday night, June 4, 1970 Fillmore West show, where I first heard their version.
