"Ask Me Why" CD single version

Steve, Gorts, my Lords, Ladies and Gentlemen…

I bring you news from Blighty.

After speaking to EMI this afternoon, I can confirm that, having checked the various masters at Abbey Road last week, they are now fully aware that the wrong version of “Ask Me Why” was used on the CD single.

Those of you, who have Mark Lewisohn’s Sessions book, will no doubt flick to the entry for 25th February 1963, which states that “mono mixing from Ask Me Why (take 6)” took place. The speculation (and it is only speculation) is that the extra echo was added on this date to make it sound more like the rest of the album.

It is, in my opinion, highly unlikely that any correction will be made to the current CD single, but I am assured that when the CD single set is remastered (please, I know not when) the correct version will be used.

Best wishes,

Nobby.

What did they say at Abbey Road to you Nobby? Who did you talk to, or if you can't give their name, what does he/she do there? Hope you told them about "Please Please Me" too.
