The Merrymen

I picked up an LP in very good condition at the Salvation Army. When I looked at it at home I was very surprised to see that it was signed by the members of the band. Anybody remember The Merrymen and would anyone know if they are available on CD? The disc I write of is Beautiful Barbados, a fun record which I first heard in the early seventies, when my father bought a copy. I've been told by a couple of record stores that they are not available on CD, but that was a while back.

You used to see those LPs around all the time back in the '70s. They were distributed by Alamada who had all kinds of weird and wonderful music from all over the world. People who had just returned from vacation in Barbados would buy The Merrymen at the store where I worked in Windsor. I doubt if they are on CD.

Cheers,
Chris

How about telling us the title of the LP?

Well, I stand corrected! Doesn't sound like those are "in stock" on a regular basis, though. 6-8 weeks.... might be worth a trip to the Bahamas to pick 'em up!

Cheers,
Chris

Be careful when buying Merrymen CD's. Make sure you're getting the ORIGINAL versions. Like many artists of the 60's (and 50's), the Merrymen re-recorded their hits in the early 80's (with a slight disco flavor!).
"You Sweeten Me" is their best, most consistent album. That's the one that should be re-issued.

An original Barbadian pressing

Here's the label. I'd show a picture of their signatures but it's a gatefold cover and would be a drag to center on the limited scanner. Plus I'm afraid some nut out there would learn to forge them, thus passing themselves off as The Merrymen!
