I saw 3-D TV WITHOUT GLASSES. In five years or so it will be here. Very impressive.

At the high end show almost all the rooms without exception had vinyl spinning. Everyone was walking around carrying records. It was pretty darn neat.

Clark from Acoustic Sounds introduced me to sugar free Gelato which I had between every lecture and after every meal. I might forgive him someday. The Harbeth 40s in the Acoustic Sounds room sounded great as Clark played some of our NAT KING COLE 45 RPM test pressings on the Thorens turntable in there.

Had an all you can eat buffet at Treasure Island with Lesley & Dick Olsher and others. Talked with Lesley for hours. Great time.

Breakfast every morning at Denny's with VAC's Kevin Hayes & gang. Beats hotel food.

Loved the Gershman BLACK SWAN speakers. Ofra & Eli are great people. At dinner we talked about the situation in Israel and everything else in the world. Nice to not talk about audio all the time..

Joe Nino-Hernes and I agreed that the best bass at the show was in Alan Sides' OCEAN WAY room. His gigantic studio monitors sang while Alan played his master tapes of the JAWS soundtrack on a real Ampex ATR-100 reel to reel.

More open reel madness at the J-Corder room. Love to watch those reels spinning around. A lot of pictures were taken in there of different color Technics machines. Lorin, Kim and Jeff are like one of us (except Lorin and Kim are prettier)....

Elton Evans helped me out again this year by guiding me when the crowds got too much.

Got to see a drug bust at 3:00 am outside my hotel window. Cops yelling "ON YOUR KNEES!!" really loud. Gotta love the Casino Royale.

Was amused to see Joe and Ron of the Blue Note MUSIC MATTERS gang running around being chased by well-wishers sniffing for test pressings. Ron was being bowed to as a Music God (as he should be).

Everyone was much friendlier this year than last. The food seemed to be yummier. The ciggie smoke seemed to be less. "L'Amour #2" sprayed from the air vents at the Venetian seemed to be less. The Porn Expo girls seemed to be prettier.

The 3-D TV without glasses sounds encouraging Steve, who makes it?

    Dave-o,

Sorry, I forgot. It was chaos at the convention center. Barely escaped with my life.

Much safer at the High-End part in the Venetian hotel. (Cuter girls as well).

    Sounds fun but tiring!

In about 5 years my wide screen TV should be about dead so maybe the next one will be 3-D!

I wonder if there is any degrading effect for 2-D pictures?

Five years - I'm sure they'll fix any problems by then!

Sounds like you had a blast Steve. I had a pretty good time there as well...but I was friggin' exhausted!

And the TI buffet? Blah, you guys should have went next door to the Mirage. Much better, imo.

Also, I wasn't impressed with the Harbeths. They just didn't do it for me.

Did you stay at the ROYALE?! We did too!!!

Not only did that drug bust keep me awake, I also was disappointed by Subway being the only place open at that time. :(

We were on the first floor of that place!

There's plenty of 24 hour joints in Vegas. Right across the street from where you were staying in fact.

Ah shucks, you guys stole my angle!

The 3D thing has been around for a few years in various forms. Most of the big companies have a model or two for commercial displays which sell for over $20k each. It's not ready for prime time for sure. 5 years is probably realistic for sets under $1k. The real issue is standardization and that is what the new sets with glasses are aiming for. The types which use glasses with shuttered lenses produce very realistic images. Still there is such limited content and demand that it will likely creep along. Gamers will be the first market and of course porn will be the next....

At Caesar's? Maybe I should've gone there. Hell, I should've just gone next door to McD's, or Panda. :(
But hey, I was delirious from lack of sleep, and it was too cold to walk over to Harrah's. :shake:

Nah, next door @ the Venetian. Grand Lux Cafe. I recommend it highly. It's a chain, but very good food, imo.

Aw crap! I went to the OTHER place at the Venetian, downstairs by the Casino. The one that has the good burgers and the Gelato place too. Right after I had my Subway meatball sub. :( I forgot about the Grand Lux.

To paraphrase Elvira, "This is the double D part, not the 3-D part!"

True. I don't find it that bad, imo. Maybe 'cause I used to be a smoker?
