On Sundays for many years on KZOK in Seattle, the "Breakfast with the Beatles" show would conclude with a few bars of Bing Crosby's version of Hey Jude, and I've long viewed that as the ne plus ultra version of that song (in a tongue in cheek way). Well, I may have found a version that is equally or more wonderful. It's from a 1970 LP called "Paul Frees and the Poster People," in which the great (!) voice actor sings a number of pop songs in the style of assorted celebrities. For Hey Jude, he takes on the voice of Peter Lorre, much as he did for a Spike Jones recording of My Old Flame over 20 years earlier.

You can have a listen here and find out more info about the record here.
