Left Banke "Walk Away, Renee" - stereo CD availability?

I'm trying to track down "Walk Away, Renee", on CD, in stereo. I know all Left Banke comps are out of print, but if anybody can comment "Renee" on the following comps (mono/stereo, sound quality)... that'd be excellent:

45's on CD, Vol. 3 (Rebound)
Classic Rock: 1966 - The Beat Goes On (Time Life)
Jukebox Hits of 1966, Vol. 1 (Jukebox)
Hard To Find 45s on CD, Vol. 6 (Eric)
Highs of the Sixties (Warner Bros.)

Thanks!

Original stereo mix is on Highs in the 60s. Sounds great too. Like it better than the remix.

+1

I do like the remix, but like Mark I prefer the original. I think there are some other threads about this that also recommend this CD. It's pretty easy to find.

All the CDs listed above have "Walk Away Renee" in stereo. I don't know of any CD sources for the mono version (and none are listed at the top40musiconcd.com site).

That's unfortunate, because I think the mono version is a better mix than either the original stereo or remixed versions. However, even though the mono mix is more cohesive, it's still less-then-stellar sounding...something about the recording or mixing of the vocals always sounded odd and distant.

I've not found one. "Pretty Ballerina" in mono is on a CD or two but not RAW.

I can't stand either the mono mix or the remixed stereo which is trying to sound like the mono. The mono mix is tighter, but the slightly out of tune harmony vocal on the chorus drives me nuts. Whoever did the original stereo mix wisely mixed it down.

Thanks for all the feedback! So the only one with the original stereo mix is on "Highs of the Sixties" and the remix is on all others?

The problem with the original mono mixes was that the vocal track was quite dry, and lacking the reverb that appeared on the single.

The song must have gone through a bunch of bounce downs, since the flute overdub is quite obviously punched-in on the string track. Even the modern remix which emulates the sound of the 45 still cuts rather aburptly when the flute comes in.

Great tune, though.

Just picked this up this week: Hard To Find 45s on CD, Vol. 6 (Eric)
sounded just fine. I like that series pretty well.

It is a stereo mix, but not theirs.

Doesn't the Dennis Drake comp also contain the original stereo mix?

I've uploaded samples for comparison:

Walk Away Renee (original stereo)

Walk Away Renee (There's Gonna Be a Storm stereo remix)

The original smokes the remix! I guess I never realized the version on There's Gonna Be a Storm is a remix. Is the original from Highs of the Sixties? I know I have that here too.

The remix seems to have a stray, slightly out of tune backing vocal mixed higher than the original mix.

When I hear them back-to-back like that, I like the original mix better...even though it's a little bright. But I still have to say that I like the mono mixes the best. (MarK: where can one get "Pretty Ballerina" in mono?)

"Pretty Ballerina" in mono is on Sunshine Days 5. Sounds fantastic but its not a cheap CD.

Could be on other CDs but I don't know of which ones.
