    Wow...

I will say that I love my originals, but it will be very interesting to see what Bellman can do with these. He's great.

Hopefully he can tame that top end and give us a nice sounding release.

They were recorded at Ardent Studio in Memphis, TN.

Thanks for the news. Chris Bellman did great work on the Classic reissues from The Who as well as the Mudcrutch vinyl.

Ardent Studios has been around for 40+ years:

Click on the "Clients / Discography" link in the menu bar near the top for a selected list of bands who've recorded there.

$33 is a lot cheaper than what I've seen originals go for in the Memphis record stores.

Thanks Craig, I guess the reason I was asking is to see if this is a particuliar "sound" that Ardent studio has that makesthe Big Star abums sound as they do. A bit off topic, sorry.

Damn...I love both of these albums, but I just picked up the UK Stax 1978 reissue, which sounds pretty good.

I wonder if these will be better?

Fantastic news! Originals in good condition are hard to come by so these are perfect candidates for reissue. I shall certainly be buying them.

I have been putting off getting original vinyls because of just this possibility. Let's hope they turn out well!

You just have to be patient. I found an original pressing of Radio City on ebay a couple years back for $40.

    Definitely interested in these!

I've got near mint Ardent lps of both of the original albums (bought them new when they first came out). Certainly the top end is well represented but that's the way the band wanted it to sound. Larry Nix is a fine mastering engineer and I personally love the sound of both original pressings. And oh yeah, they're both pretty much perfect albums come to think of it...

I think Bobby has something here. When I've tamed the high end on the CD or SACD, other instruments (and particularly the voices) tended to suffer. The original vinyl, while still brighter than what an audiophile would like, sounds really good and is about as close as you'll get to what the band and John Fry wanted.

what a rip off though. can't see how a single LP could cost $33. they seem to be marking up the prices just cause they know people are starved for big star vinyl.
