VPI has introduced a new table for $2500 the CLASSIC. Harry posted on the Audio Asylum web site that he wanted to produce a table that had the sound of his Empires and Rek-O Kuts. From his post it comes through that he really feels that this is one of his best sounding tables.

I have nothing but respect for VPI. Personally I feel that they build tables that outperform their price points. I've spoken with Sheila several times and they are truely down to earth people that never try to "sell" you on upgrading, in fact one time she said to me that what I had was good and why would you want to spend more money.

Tom, I had the pleasure of meeting Harry at one of the HE200X shows here in NYC. A fine gentleman and a true audiophile.

    A true beauty.
This model may just change some folks' mind on going vintage (along with the expense and hassle of finding replacement parts and the cost of custom built plinths, etc.).
If it sounds as good as it looks, Harry has himself a winner.

A pretty amusing thread on this over at AA, where even Harry chimed in. it does look attractive, but after all I've invested in my 19 MK-IV I'm not about to switch!

I don't like the way the motor is mounted to the plinth. Could make for noise.

If you look closely at the picture there appears to be a line seperating the motor area from the main plinth.

This is a very interesting product as now one can get a 10.5i arm based table for a reasonable amount of money.

I just bought a scout, and now this comes out. I really wish I had waited 2 weeks this table would have been worth the extra cash for me.

Actually you can now get a 10.5i arm on the Scoutmaster - I have one on mine. You can get it new or as an upgrade.

It's the one thing that would make me want to sell my Scoutmaster and pick up one of these. But I'm really happy with my rig so I don't think that will be happening anytime soon.

I'm very happy as well so I am fine for a while. If I upgrade, I will look at an Aries 3.

Nice table. I was surprised to see it announced. Since VPI dropped the TNT6 turntable I was expecting a model between the Aries 3 and the HRX to fill in the hole. This new "Classic" will compete with the Scoutmaster price wise. Maybe another table is in the making. Who knows.

I have been debating upgrading to the Aries 3 myself too.
