AKADriver over on the Beatles Hollywood & Vine board has put up a petition to have the Catalog remastered. He plans on sending the results & comments onto Apple. Even if it doesn't work we could at least say we tried. So if everyone could take a few minutes to sign it it would be appreciated.
As of right now there are about 171 signitures. Like I said there is a place for comments and there are many asking that the job be given to Steve.

    Thank You

I'm sure not holding my breath...

But I signed it... So, when "it doesn't work we could at least say we tried."

Sorry to sound negative... But, well... Someone explain it to him.

    :( :(

Uh, is AudioGirl actually Theresa? Someone post something about whether DVD-A or SACD will win the audiophile format for choice.;)

    All in jest, of course!

    First thank you for signing...

Trust me I understand completely. It has been said that the Beatles are thier own (and our) worst enemy.

But on a positive, I've also read somewhere that the reason "Live at the BBC" might have been released is because a fan had Ringo autograph a copy of the Great Dane Complete BBC set. After asking about it he later told the others about what some fans would do for unreleased tracks.

    :)

    Ahhh YES!

I really did go over to the petition link and ascribed to it. Also, the petition has a "comment box"
I made sure to say in it that "Steve Hoffman has to master the project" :D

    Just in case... :D

    Actually its spelt "Teresa".

AudioGirl, if you had visited the hi-rez forum at www.audioasylum.com over the last 6 months you would know the name. She created quite a stir by adopting DVD-As and SACDs with some fervour. Then she excited us further by dumping all (only 13) her Sony SACDs and posting that she would only buy SACDs from labels other than Sony.

This post identifies her exactly: http://www.audioasylum.com/forums/hirez/messages/18123.html

But she knows her music, as can be seen from her taste in rock: http://www.audioasylum.com/forums/hirez/messages/31272.html

Oh sure it could hurt! They'd give it over to Abbey Road to remaster. Five channels of glorious no-noised, breath of death music. We'll be rushing to pick up all the vinyl and 'unremastered' CDs that we are complaining about now.

Sorry, members - I must be in a grumpy mood tonight. I hope Ringo and Paul can convince - whoever - that a DCC CD (or S&P) is the way to go!

Wonder if Steve can email Paul!?! Or Ringo? How can we pull some strings around here? Someones gotta know someone who knows.... errr... something.

    Any ideas?

I give up already, but I have another plan. Remember when Steve offered to professionally dupe a MoFi Abbey Road UHQR disc? Can't we all pitch in and get one from eBay and make it happen that way? Revolver would be

I think you are on to something here! But surely (don't call me Shirley) someone on this board has some of these?

    Who lives in California? :)

But we are wasting Steves time.... he's working, you know. How about someone else?

My bad, it wasn't going to be just a copy, it was going to be a copy with fairy dust sprinkled all over if you get my drift. ;)

Maybe my recollection is off, but it was just an idea.

Thanks Metralla... I went over to audioasylum via the link you posted. I must admit that I haven't spent much time on that forum... I find it a pretty closed circle and tiresome to navigate. :o Not that it isn't interesting, because it is! Very interesting.

Anyway, I saw Teresa's list and found that she has pretty similar taste to my own... Maybe that's why someone thought I was Teresa in the first place.

The only thing I wouldn't have on my list was Grateful Dead... Never been much of a Dead fan... I like life too much I guess.

I might say that I would spend some time over at the audioasylum... But I like this forum quite a lot and I am not ready to spend that much more time on line. I have to reserve some free time for listening to MUSIC!! :D :D

    See ya!

My understanding (and I hope someone will correct me if I'm misinformed) is that to substantially improve the sound over the current reissues, the Beatles catalog would require remixing, which, particularly in the cases of the later albums, would be extremely difficult if not impossible to do (or to do in a way that wouldn't infuriate much of the public).

Obviously, the earlier albums could be reissued in stereo--actually both mono and stereo versions could fit on a single disc--and perhaps better source material could be located ("Beatles For Sale" is particularly atrocious).

Still, unless remixing is accomplished (a la the Beatles Anthology CDs, which sound great, but which generally feature less heavily-mixed or earlier demo takes), we might be disappointed in new Beatles reissues.

I think the Beatle catalog should just be reissued from the BEST sounding available (master) tape. Most importantly, IMHO is to run this through TUBES vs. solid state (which the past issues were, right?). Also, make the sound faithfull to the original sound recordings (NOT Capitol's Duophonic, mind you!). And release the albums with accurate MONO and STEREO versions on each CD...up thru Sgt. Pepper, to cover "most" bases! Remix only as a last resort.

OH!......Just let Steve do it...he knows the DEAL!

My personal taste would tube mastering (no solid state, especially 70's German solid state consoles) on vinyl, CD, and SACD or DVD-A, in both original stereo and mono mixes with analog stereo remixes on Rubber Soul and the songs "I Wanna Hold Your Hand," "Paperback Writer," "Can't Buy Me Love," and maybe "Eleanor Rigby" (I'm beginning to rethink that one).

I signed as well with Steve as my #1 choice but also listed Doug Sax and Stan Ricker just as 2 secondary back ups just in case.

    :D

Geeze I hope that's how Stan spells his last name?!

One thing in our favor even though it's been awhile, is that Paul McCartney himself is aware of Steve's work.
Apparently he called Steve after the DCC gold disc of the McCartney album was released, and told him he was really pleased with it.

I'm bettin' Peter Mew hasn't received such a call. Or at least I hope not.

Not true. Just listen to an original UK LP pressing of "Abbey Road," "Pepper," heck, any of 'em, on a good system ... and you'll hear what a remastered CD might be able to shoot for.

Don't forget Ringo! I am sure he is pleased with Steve's work, too. But would Paul and Ringo's wishes amount to a hill of beans at the record company? Peter Mew may be their economical favorite choice. And he is the remastering guy for Abbey Road Studios. With lots of experience under his belt. Ever see his picture and partial credits at their web site? To me it's a partial list to avoid.

Apparently the resulting sound quality is not an issue over there...

And Steve is reluctant to remaster unless it's from the original master tapes. But I'd hope he'd make an exception in this case! :D
