Just got an email from the Grateful Dead store -

As far as highlights-based recordings go, this is a good release.

My only complaint is that they didn't include the FANTASTIC "Help on The Way>Slipknot!>Franklin's Tower" from 9/19.

At any rate, I think this run of shows was one of the best of their last years. I have some nice sounding AUD's from this run, but I'll be picking this up as well.

I got the same e-mail and I already ordered - but what makes this Volume 2. Is it because it is from a different decade? The first 4 Road Trips (all volume 1) were from the 70's. Does that mean all of Vol 2 will be from the 90's.

What is the determining factor of what makes a new Volume for Road Trips?

Can't wait for this. I actually like a lot of the 90's stuff...

I think they are trying to number them like magazines are done.

I remember listening to the FM broadcast of 9/19 when it originally aired and I was not impressed at all. Maybe I should give the MSG run a fresh listen.

    I'm ordering. :goodie:
Nice to see they are finally gettting to some 90's with Hornsby. Although I always found DP9 from the same run to be a little routine but the 19th & 20th are sweet shows.

Next it would be nice to release some of the 83, 89-90 Brent stuff.....please!

Right. Volume 1 was the first year of the series - from November 2007 to November 2008 or whatever it is.

    Now begins volume 2...

Check out the wonderful FOB AUD recordings out on archive.org. I find that the enthusiasm of the crowd and the ambience of the venue can enhance the listening experience, particularly with shows from the latter half of their career.

I saw all six nights, so this is a must-have for me, despite having some great sbds of the shows.

The LAST great run of the Grateful Dead, and a must buy IMO.

I agree though the H>S>F from 9/19 should be on there.

I have been in love with those B&K tapes since I got them shortly after the shows. By far, the best indoor tapes I have ever heard. Great run of shows that we recognized as being special and "classic" as they were happening.

There were some security guards at MSG who were "tipped" in order to get prime recording spots for those 1990 MSG FOB's..

Just ordered, but man! Is it just me, or is shipping getting really expensive?

    Shipping Options
    Please choose a shipping option:
UPS Ground - Shipping Cost: $9.39
UPS 2nd Day Air - Shipping Cost: $20.27
USPS Mail (6-12 Days) - Shipping Cost: $5.00
UPS Next Day Air - Shipping Cost: $45.32

Boy, this septet is quite the configuration, isn't it.

Always had the feeling that Jerry felt he was dealing with a true musical equal, the way he and Bruce worked off each other.

I didn't catch that. Is it written on the site?

Is pitch correcting extra on this set?

No...I'm just assuming that since it's a 90 release. I think they multi-tracked most everything in the digital era...I could be wrong.

You didn't attend the 1991 Boston Gardens shows I assume? Because that was definitely a great run.

I went to one show, but have heard the whole run many times, and yes it has it's great moments, but I find the run as a whole fairly average. YMMV of course! :) It's not even in the same ballpark as MSG 90 in my opinion..

I went to all of the Boston '91 shows - that was the last great run IMO.

  23. Playing in the band > Ship of fools > Playing in the band > Uncle John's Band
    and
Dark star > Playing in the band > Dark star > Throwing stones > Touch of grey

All I can say is WOW! Too bad they left off Help on the way>Slipknot>Franklin's tower. Listening to Dark Star right now on archive.org and it's just amazing.

Hopefully this will sound as good as the circulating tapes.

I love the China Cat > Rider - Hornsby's piano playing sounds so great...it's one of my most favorite late era moments.
