First up for the 24 Karat Gold Series:

    ALICE COOPER "SCHOOL'S OUT"
    THE BEACH BOYS "PET SOUNDS"
    THE BAND "SELF TITLED"
LINDA RONSTADT "HEART LIKE A WHEEL"
    THE CARS "HEARTBEAT CITY"

I was told there are a bunch of questions for us in this thread:

    http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=164308

Please ask them here and I will try and answer them. A few things even we don't know yet so please don't ask us what is next to be issued after the BAND/BEACH BOYS/LINDA RONSTADT/ALICE COOPER/CARS, the tangled web of licensing from major labels really prohibits us from giving you too much of a preview.

Other than that, ask away. I'll be back later to check this thread out..

    So many questions, hmm....

Can you tell us if you plan on doing anything different on the new AF "Pet Sounds" than on the DCC "Pet Sounds" (which I believe was mastered flat)? Bonus tracks?

Also (if you're allowed to) could you please tell us about the Band s/t master tape situation? How'd you finally get whichever Band member is was to finally loan out the tapes? That's quite an feat!

Will you be mastering Pet Sounds the same way as the DCC - flat?

Edit: Jason - you beat me by 3 minutes!

Steve, are these going to be HDCD like the previous AF gold CDs?

    Steve,

Were these 4 new titles your idea, Marshall's or both?

    I have a few questions.

Will we see the first titles by Christmas?

    Is SACD a possibility?

Will titles be issued on LP and CD at the same time, or will there be a delay with one or the other?

Of course my first question is when they will be available? Then, have you already started on them or maybe even finished one or two? Do YOU have any comments about your work with them that you want to tell us now, little things you were surprised about or that stood out? Good luck with coming things!

Will this reissue series be strictly pop/rock oriented or is there a possibility of some classic jazz titles being included at some future point? Thanks.

Which master of Pet Sounds will you be using for the new AF version? The NY tape?

Hi Steve. You did such a fantastic job with Stadium Arcadium and Highway Companion, I'd love to see you get a chance to `fix' some more modern titles and not just older stuff with Audio Fidelity. I know you can't give much away. but any chance we'll see some contemporary titles as well?

I'd like to know if these titles will be available in Europe too or U.S. only. (an example: will I be able to order them directly from an Italian on-line store that sells audiophile discs? )

    Many thanks in advance.

Re: The Band, can't really go into detail..

    PET SOUNDS:

Different? Don't know yet. Might use the DCC, might try to improve it. Ask me again in a few weeks!

Marshall and I have similar musical taste (ya think?)

We've both wanted to do the Linda/Heart Like A Wheel and The Band S/T since the DCC days. Marshall came up with the Alice Cooper and I nominated PET SOUNDS (also SUMMER DAYS, TODAY, etc.) Marshall wants to do some more CARS, etc.

We ask the majors and they counter, etc. Just like the old days. We will see what happens!

We are wide open, just like the DCC era. Jazz, old and new, modern rock and pop stuff, all cool.

Vinyl is sexy right now. This does NOT work in our favor, the majors think there is money to be made and want to do it on their own. What they don't understand is that it takes more than pressing a record made from a CD. Sigh.

At any rate, soon (hopefully) they will get tired of vinyl and give out some to us audiophile labels again. Right now it's almost impossible to get anything.

Sounds like the mid-90s when all the remasters came out and the majors thought they could do it better.
