Today is the first time I went to leave feedback for someone and it came up telling me the seller cannot leave retaliatory feedback so be honest.

I am thrilled with this myself. Before when everyone was talking about this most sellers did not like it and I was one of them but the more I thought about the more I thought it was a VERY good idea, I even started leaving feedback for buyers as soon as they paid before this went into effect.

    :goodie: happy.

As someone who sells one or two items a year and buys one or two items a day (;)), I am very pleased with the new rule.

Interesting. My rating went from 258 to 261. I only had one negative feedback from 2001. :shh:

I noticed this today as well when my feedback jumped from 428 to 631. I think they've changed their feedback to show all feedback including now multiple feedback from the same buyer/seller.

Mine went up, too, by 6 points, though I have never had a neg or a neutral.

That seems to be it with some restrictions. Look here:

Ditto that, mine jumped 4 points with no negs or neutrals. I don't understand how things were recalculated.

I think a seller should only be able to leave negative for non-payment. Maybe a neutral for unreasonable buyers that send stuff back or otherwise don't fulfill their end of the auction?

me too and as a seller I am not worried at all because I am a seller who does a good job. Now all those sellers who hold back feedback and do whatever they feel like will get the feedback they deserve. Good seller feedback will mean something now :righton:

Trouble is, I'm a good honest seller like you and do my absolute best to send off items, as described as soon as I can - but some buyers are just NEVER pleased. Now those types can say what they like, true or not - and you can't do anything about it - unless you lodge a response. I had someone who used my photo of an item, and they then put the record they bought from me up for sale before I'd even sent it to them, even talked it up to a higher grading - before he even listened to it! Really dodgy bloke. I reported him to ebay - so then he just puts "fair seller" - really P****d me off. I think that ebays policies are all about their own finacial interest to be honest - every single one of them. Thoughts?

That's my only qualm with this I think. I've only had to leave a negative two or three times in almost 500 transactions and I can remember at least two being buyers who said "sorry I don't have the money"

I guess just filling out a non-paying bidder form with eBay is the only recourse.

I suspect we'll be seeing a lot more ratings below 99% and buyers may have to recalibrate their standards for what is a "good" seller. But, at least now, buyers will get a more accurate (but definitely still not perfect) picture of a seller. I'd rather hear others' complaints (and praise) about a seller and read between the lines than not get any info at all (which is what the feedback system had become).

Clearly ebay deemed that a lack of faith in the feedback system was harming (or going to harm) ebay's bottom-line. Ebay rarely seems to remain constant, so my guess is that there will be some further tinkering of the feedback system.

  18. The assumption that the buyer is never in the wrong is sure a bad one and I want the ability to leave negative feedback as a seller. My one negative feedback in 8 years and about a thousand transactions was from a buyer claiming I shipped an empty package. I refused to refund the purchase price, the UPS of course weighed the box and it wasn't empty, quite heavy actually. I have one sale now where the USPS lost the package in Memphis, I have filed a lost mail claim, but that was a month ago, so it is gone forever I am sure. The tracking information shows in transit through Memphis then nothing and the buyer declined the insurance option. I sure did nothing wrong but will receive negative feedback again since I have no leverage. I got a neutral feedback from a buyer that left 50% neutral feedback to sellers, guess he wanted something other than what he bought or was unhappy with his decision and I responded with neutral feedback to him but won't have that option now.

  19. I think this is a good thing in general.

I buy and sell on eBay, but I do more buying for sure.

As a seller, I try to do it right (that starts with the right grading of items), and if there ever is an issue, I'll gladly work something out.

As a buyer, in at least 90% of the cases, everything is fine. Sometimes, items are in really bad condition or are just not what described/pictured. In the past, I usually just didn't leave feedback or left a positive anyway. Not at least you can also leave an honest feedback, and as long as you don't abuse this as a buyer, it should be fair.

Retaliatory feedback left by sellers isn't right... so, this new change would take care of that. However, can a seller respond to negative feedback with a comment to at least get their side of the story? That would seem more fair.

Buyers aren't perfect. I once had a buyer all pissed off as one of the several records I sent was "missing". We went back and forth a few times arguing about it, as I remembered packing it. She held out leaving neg FB for fear of getting one back. Turns out she threw the missing record out with the packaging. She eventually found it in the trash and everyone went away happy and with positive FB.

I did get a neg from a buyer who claimed the Japanese LP pressing I sent him was a library record. I don't even know if the Japanese HAVE library records! There were absolutely no library markings on it (or any markings) so I don't know how he came up with that one.

12 months from now every buyer will have a 100% positive feedback rating. It's like the new trend in Little League baseball where certain leagues don't keep score so that all the kids feel like winners.

As for "retaliatory" feedback by sellers being eliminated by the new changes, someone please explain to me why a seller would neg a buyer who paid in good faith? Makes no sense.

pretty much anytime you left a seller negative feedback even if they were totally in the wrong the seller would leave negative for you regardless. Human nature? I don't know

Because the "buyer who paid in good faith" gave the seller a neg for selling a "mint" LP that actually looked like pizza had been served and cut on it?

As a seller, I've had two recent incidents where I've been neg'ed because the buyer "claims" he sent payment and I didn't send the goods, when in reality I never received any payment from them at all. I think I should have the right to neg him back; after all whether or not he actually sent the payment, I never received it! What's anyone to do? He probably thinks that I'm just out to steal his money (nevermind the 5800+ positives I have); and I'm thinking he's just trying to scam me for free goods!
