Then you are not looking for the "best sounding" but the best sounding CD compilation currently available and in-print. Right?

Tull "best of" collections are tricky. Over half of their full legnth albums are better than any of the comps, in my opinion.

Living in the Past was sort of a comp of the best of the first few years (1968-1972), but it was about half new material.

The 2cd set called "The Best of Jethro Tull - The Anniversary Collection" is the best comp, but only because it is a two disc set. Even it omits one of Tull's greatest songs "With You There to Help Me". If it is not in print, it should be very easy to find used.

I'm partial to the 1975 compilation M.U.: The Best of Jethro Tull myself. The Aqualung tracks here are fold-downs of quad mixes, and differ somewhat from the album versions.

This disc serves a purpose not as a comprehensive collection of hits, but rather as an LP-length compilation that fills in a few gaps, flows nicely enough, and complements their studio albums nicely. I believe it's OOP, though...

No. The original one. I don't have the catalogue number handy at the moment. I like much of it more than the MoFi.

Have you heard the 2001 remaster?

No, not for "Living In The Past". I once owned the remaster for "Benefit" and "Stand Up". They are gone and I kept the original US Chrysalis.

    pig whisperer has it nailed.

...also original MU and Repeat are worth seeking out.

(now for a completely different sound)
I know this goes against the grain here but I really like the sound of the 2001 The Very Best Of:

It might be a bit too bright for the sound tastes of certain members.
