Anything special about the Vertigo vs. the WB, besides the prettier labels?

I found this UK pressing to be quieter than the American version, which this LP definitely needs and this copy is the best I have heard to date - sonically and for quiet vinyl.

I have always understood the Uk vertigos are the way to go for the Dire Straits stuff.I think thats what I recall.

Great! Just picked up a mint Dutch pressing today. Great sound. Different labels. Very nice as well.

Good. I have one of those.

I actually believe the Masterdisk BK version is the best I have heard.

My Masterdisc was ticky as I recall, but I think I bought in 1984, so it wasn't an orig. press.

    I have the following...

    MASTERDISK BK (Bill Kipper)
    MASTERDISK HW (Howie Weinberg)
    MASTERDISK RL (Robert Ludwig)

My personal favourite is the 'RL'

I believe the RL must be fairly rare. I have never seen one in many trips. I wonder if the BK might be the same mastering. It sounds live and present like an RL.

I was just listening to this album for the first time in a while. Mine is a Canadian pressing but has MASTERDISK HW in the deadwax. I was very impressed with the sound of this one! I may have to keep my eyes open for other masterings of this LP so that I can compare.

    Cheers,
    Chris

I was wondering about the 'RL' and what others thought of it.I just found
a NM 2 sided 'RL' for $3 last week.Anyone compared it to the UK or other
    imports?

I haven't made a comparison in a while with the BK, HW and RL, but I do remember feeling that the 'RL' had that something extra in terms of ambience and dynamics, but it wasn't a 'night and day' difference!

I have a great sounding Dutch pressing, too; but mine is on the mid-seventies colour flying saucer label.

I just bought a nice used copy of this over the weekend. I'll have to check the deadwax.

My favorite track is Telegraph Road and it's always bothered me the way that it fades out while the band are obviously still cranking away. Does anybody know if the CD version is extended beyound the 14:28 on the vinyl? I've never heard the CD.

    Cheers,
    Chris

It's about the same. I check my CD and the time is 14:23.

Found a Canadian pressing by Masterdisk Howie Weinberg. Best sounding copy I have yet.

Also, it has a nice custom label with the blue smoke rising. :righton:
