Average sound. If you can get it cheap it's a neat set.

They sold zillions of these in the 1970's.

I have the copy that our radio station had....later issue.....tan RCA labels.....'twas OK...nothing earth shattering sound wise, but it is indeed a fantastic set if you just want "the hits".

Yes. Every Italian family had one of those in the console stereo with the religious picture on the wall just above it that had eyes that followed you no matter where you went. Trust me.....they all had it!

I agree that it is average sound at best as well. I have seen price guides over price this set but get it cheap.

I have one, found it last year for $20. It's a convenient way of getting the 60's hits in mono which is the only reason I got it. The sound is ok but you certainly won't be wowed by it.

The RCA-Victor "Gold Standard Series" of 45's are the BEST way to hear Elvis on record. Those double sided hits are awesome. Brown or Red labels.

In fact, the best way on earth to hear Little Peggy March "I Will Follow Him", Tokens "The Lion Sleeps Tonight", Sam Cooke, etc. is on the Gold Standard Series.

Cheap to buy because they are not the original label.

    You heard it here first!

This was a welcomed release at the time.
In 1970 album-wise, all the early Elvis was horrible,
    fake, re-channeled "stereo".

Having the hits in Lp format in mono was great.
Today, there are better sounding releases of course.

But it worth picking up, if the price is right, IMHO.

The 45 reissues from the 70's aren't too shabby either. They all came with black labels and blue paper sleeves.

I have this set and it is average sounding. I've heard the 2 gold CD RCA/BMG release, and I prefer the sound of the Gold CD's over the albums. Mine are the 1977 black label version.

well I have my eye on a pretty mint box and cheap...so I'm gonna get it sounds worth it for the mono mixes.

  16. watch e***y....I was an only bidder 2-3 years ago on a mint box for $5

    good intro to the hits

soon, though, you will start to crave the GOOD STUFF, and you will drop $200 on Steve's DCC 2-disc vinyl and that silly grin will be there for awhile.

    that's all

I just received this set the other week! My swath (that sounds weird spoken out loud...) looks like a fabric sample from a GC Murphy store... plain brown or red (i'm colorblind).

I have an original pressing of this set with the bonus photo book.

To me the sound is pretty dull - neat set to have - but there are much better sounding versions of these tracks out there.
