I agree with the above two and I listen to these the most:
    Sonny Criss/Sonny Criss
    Tina Brooks/True Blue
    Cannonball Adderley/Somethin' Else
    Lee Morgan/Candy
    Sonny Clark/Cool Struttin'
    John Coltrane/Blue Trane

I think it's possibly the best pressing of the greatest recording ever. My No1 test disc, especially the 45rpm version.

I wonder what Steve could do with it?

    I have quite a few...some standouts:

    45RPM 180g (first pressing)

    Miles Davis "Kind of Blue"
    Dave Brubeck "Time Out"
    Miles Davis "Sketches of Spain"

I have many versions of Kind of Blue and this set is by far the BEST way to hear this album imo.

It's not jazz, but if you ever get the chance to grab the 5 LP comparative version of Cowboy Junkies "The Trinity Session" GRAB IT! It is absolutely fantatsic....also 180g. :)

Duke Ellington- Piano in the Foreground. You can hear a squeak in the drumset. I think it was in the hi-hat pedal.

Here's some that I think hold their own, or in many cases, surpass the original pressings in direct comparisons:
    Miles Davis "Kind Of Blue"
    Miles Davis "Sketches Of Spain"
Miles Davis "Birth Of The Cool"
    Dave Brubeck "Time Out"
    Charles Mingus "Ah Um"
    John Coltrane "Blue Train" stereo
Sonny Rollins "The Bridge" (way better than the original Living Stereo)
Billie Holiday "Songs For Distingue Lovers" (when the polarity is reversed)

There are many other jazz titles they did that sound quite good but I've not had the luxury to compare to the originals so I refrain from comment.

    Grundman's Time Out

Time Out (the original 180g biscuit) is one of Grundman's all time best! The Bridge by Rollins is another one that sounds quite good. These masterings have a very etched solid state sound BUT I mean that in a good way ,especially in the case of Time Out.So much for the brilliance of an all tube cutting system, sometimes a solid state job can do as good a job.

    More Classics

33,I also liked Sonny Stitt plays the Blues as well.Sonny Rollins' Our man in Jazz is a "classic" Classic if you will!Once again, these masterings are very detailed and focused and some would say suffer from a strident sound,I DON'T!These pressing don't have tubey magic, but demonstrate the positive use of a solid state mastering chain(especially when used with vinyl). In this modern vinyl era,Time Out is arguably the best mastering of a superduper heavy vinyl reissue.I also understand that Bernie mastered this one flat! What a sacrilege! No tubes( at least in that original issue) and no mastering moves.........

The Bridge was one of the very first vinyls I bought after I went back to the world vinyl: great album with excellent good quality. Has been one of my most satisfied vinyl purchases.

I would recommend the releases on Sonny Clark, Horace Parlan & Thad Jones.

I thought I'd bump this old thread because of the recent sad news regarding Classic Records. I'm going to be looking for more Classic Records jazz titles now and would like to know of any other 'must have' titles.

I currently own on 200 gram vinyl:

Miles Davis - Kind of Blue
Miles Davis - Sketches of Spain
John Coltrane - Blue Train (stereo)
    Dave Brubeck - Time Out
    Art Blakey - Moanin'
Tina Brooks - Back to the Tracks
Jackie McLean - Swing Swang Swingin'

I still love the ones I mentioned two threads earlier:

    In addition:
Billie Holiday - Songs For Distingue Lovers
Freddie Redd - Shade of Redd
    Lou Donaldson - Blues Walk

Also all Sonny Clark and Hank Mobley.

What are some of the must haves that Music Matters or AP are not putting out? Any title suggestions that are unique to Classic?

These are the ones I know. It is very easy to find out on AS website as it indicates what other formats you can get for the same title.

Only have the first three titles. Hope I can get A Blowing Session and Swing & Soul.

    Hank Mobley - Hank
Sonny Red - Out of the Blue
Kenny Burrell - Blue Lights Vol. I & II
Johnny Griffin - A Blowing Session
    Lou Donaldson - Swing & Soul Vol.3
Horace Silver Quintet - And the Jazz Messengers
    Lee Morgan - Volume 3
Lee Morgan - Lee Morgan Sextet
Baby Face Willette - Stop and Listen

I also bought Lou Donaldson with The 3 Sounds - LD+3 because it's already OOP on 45rpm.
