    From the Stereophile CEDIA blog:

<<Joe Harley was striding around the Denver Convention Center. When we shook hands, he glanced around and said, "Let's go somewhere private." We ducked into an empty demo room and he pulled a few records out of his bag. "Nobody else knows about this, I'm giving you the exclusive."
He then handed me a gorgeous, double gatefold LP of the Horace Parlan Quintet's Speakin' My Piece. The first release in Music Matters' new definitive Blue Note reissue series. They'll be mastered by Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman at Acoustech Mastering, which will produce the metal parts. Because the recent Acoustic Sounds 45RPM Prestige/Riverside discs sounded so luscious, Music Matters decided to release the Blue Note series as double disc 45RPM limited editions sets.>>

I'm not familiar with Music Matters, but all I can say is -- where do I sign up?

So these are 45's with a single on each side? (2 tracks)

Or two 45's in a gatefold LP style cover with 4 tracks? (one track on each side)

Or are these LPs (of full albums) with gatefold covers?

NICE. I was just looking to get a good copy of Soul Station and there is it! I'm guessing this will be the stereo version.

I would think so. So now we know why the boss has been opining so much on Blue Note mono vs. stereo LP's.

Ok guys.So I am still new to the jazz world.

Are these considered some of the primo titles? I am guessing it will be the cream of the crop like the Fantasy 45 series?

Well over in the personal "TOP FIVE" jazz album thread, the Hank Mobley album is currently tied for seventh place with the following with four votes apiece:

    Miles Davis – Miles Smiles
John Coltrane – Complete 61 Village Vanguard Recordings
Oliver Nelson – The Blues and the Abstract Truth
Louis Armstrong – Hot Fives and Hot Sevens
Mingus – Black Saint and the Sinner Lady
Bill Evans – The Village Vanguard Sessions

I'd never heard of the album before that thread and the reading I've done has pushed me toward looking for a copy. I'd say this will be the definitive edition.

That's nice but I'd rather these be at 33 rpm and likely cheaper.

I agree. And, it is a bit of pain in the a$$ to have to flip the record over after only one song. I'm sure it's worth it on some music though....

I assume these will be $50 each as well?

The first scheduled releases are interesting....

Art Blakey's The Big Beat, Speakin' My Piece, Lou Donaldson's LD+3, Kenny Drew's Undercurrent, Hank Mobley's Soul Station, and Horace Parlan's Us Three.

I've been wanting to buy some of the Fantasy disks (unfortunately the first ones to sell out like "Sunday at the Village Vanguard") but at $50 a piece it's harder to pull the trigger....I just need to focus on quality vs quantity.

Of course it's cheaper than getting into original Blue Note collecting.

I heard about these through the grapevine not long ago - glad to see things are rolling along. I'm sure the success of the AP 45s had something to do with this reissue series. Will these be numbered limited editions?

Chad mentioned to me recently that a new series is on the way and that the jazz selections will be absolutely fabulous........Regarding the 33 vs 45 issue, I can definately understand why many feel the way they do regarding price, but sonically (at least to my ear) there is such difference, that for me it is hard to listen to many titles that I have both copies of from AP.......the 45s series is just that much better.......don't get me wrong, the 33s are indeed fantastic with most titles offered, but the 45s well.......let's just say, are in another league.
