As always when I come home and sit down listening to this kind of cds I feel like there is someone pissing me in the face. I feel deeply insulted.

Looks horribly compressed. You'd think an "expert" like Parson's would have known better. Guess I won't open my copy, maybe I can get some of my money back by eBay'ing it.

This is exactly what is written in the liner notes of Alan Parsons Deluxe Edition CD:

Deluxe edition mastered by Dave Donnelly and Alan Parsons at DNA Mastering, Studio City, California, 2007.

    Dave Donnelly??

In fact, he's the same guy who ruined the Chicago Rhino-remastered CD's.

The liner note written in every remastered Chicago album on Rhino CD says:

Remastering: David Donnelly at DNA Mastering, Studio City, CA

That expalins why it's compressed. :(

what a joke. Get the MFSL however you can, it rocks- absolutely no issue of brickwalling.

Please tell me (and I'm asking this as a serious question) why I should expect a track with a waveform like that to sound good? Conversely, I've already learned from the experience of listening to 'brickwalled' tracks that they're going to look JUST like that...

And the MFSL is the original mix.

(Which I prefer, after having listened to the vinyl album many, many times :) )

ya, the warmth and the original and the better sounds worked. The extra guitar and synths, and the reverby 80s production just didn't work as well.

I honestly don't think the MFSL CD can be beat.

I'd probably buy the deluxe version for the bonus tracks.

Last time I looked you couldn't listen to waveform.

The MFSL is not the original mix. It was remastered from the 1987 remixed version.

So they took out the added parts and somehow made it sound better than the remix? They recreated it to sound like the vinyl?

If so, they did a good job! I disliked and was very disappointed by the remix (1987 CD).

But you can judge by a wave form if the high end is chopped off, right?

Sorry but that is not correct.

    The original mix was used.

I have both the Deluxe edition (which has both the original and the 1987 remixed versions) and the MoFi Gold.
The 1987 remixed version included in the Deluxe edition is identical to the MoFi. Only the re-mastering is different and I prefer the sound of the Mo-Fi.

AudiophilePhil, are you saying that both versions of the Deluxe edition don't have the Orson Welles commentary/speech during the first track?

The remixed version will have the spoken intro by Orson welles whereas the original mix does not.

The MoFi used the 1987 remixed version and deleting the Orson Welles commentary/speech to make it sound like it was taken from the original mix.

So it's not from the Original Master Tapes.

    Hmmm.....

I recall differences in SQ, too, from the two versions. How can this be?

No way. The original sounds very different.
