Lovin' Spoonful remasters
Just found out that the following are to be released on Feb.18th. Anybody excited about these?
THE LOVIN' SPOONFUL - HUMS OF THE LOVIN' SPOONFUL 4 bonus tracks include 2 demos, 1 alternate and 1 instrumental. Digitally remastered by Bob Irwin (of Sundazed Records) from the original master tapes. This re-issue is dedicated to the memory of Zal Yanovsky who passed away late last year on December 13th. It doesn't get much better than this! God Bless you Zal! THE LOVIN' SPOONFUL - EVERYTHING PLAYING 2 alternate versions added as bonus tracks |

Carl, I'm looking forward to these. They're the 3rd & 4th re-issues in the series.

Carl:
The remastered Spoonful greatest hits collection and the remastered first two Spoonful albums on Buddha (BMG Heritage) sound terrific. I am so looking forward to Tuesday's release of "Hums" and "Everything Playing." I spent much of this past weekend listening to Rhino Handmade's superb 64-track solo John Sebastian collection--"Faithful Virtue: The Reprise Recordings"--as well as John's wonderful "Tar Beach" CD (more of John's outstanding writing, singing and playing and with great cover art to boot). Just to clarify things -- Bob Irwin is doing digital remasters of this series for BMG, as well as analog LP remasters reissued on his Sundazed label.

Hi, Folks.
I think that "Daydream" is the strongest album of the bunch, musically anyway. I have both the original KS mono vinyl and the new Sundazed reissues of "Magic" and "Daydream" both of which I like, but the latter especially for it's content. I have a Japanese vinyl pressing of "Hums" and thought the sonics were just OK, for whatever that's worth. Someplace in my collection I have a cutout vinyl of "Everything" and, although I recall that "Six O'Clock" was on it, ( I think), don't remember much else about it. So, what the heck, keep 'em coming!!!!! That's what I really think. Bill |

By the time "Everything's Playing" was released, a lot of the magic was gone from the group. Zal had left, following a drug bust scandal similar the the one that Greg Allman later went through, and was replaced by the less-charismatic Jerry Yester. The songs on that album were more orchestrated pop than rock 'n roll.
The Sundazed reissues are stereo. |

David, agreed and thanks for the Sundazed info. After the LP with "Six O'Clock" I stopped buying their stuff. They did put out a few great tunes. Hums is my favorite lp. I've already ordered it. The bonus tracks look very interesting.
13. Summer In The City - (bonus track, previously unreleased, demo version) 14. Rain On The Roof - (bonus track, previously unreleased, alternate take) 15. Full Measure - (bonus track, previously unreleased, instrumental version) 16. Lovin' You - (bonus track, previously unreleased, demo version) mud-

Yup, the Sundazed are stereo, with the exception of two cuts on each album. On "Magic": the demo of "Younger Girl" and "Alley Oop" are the monos and on Daydream: the demo "Didn't Want to Have to do It" and alternate "Fishin' Blues" are the additions there. All in all, they are both very good efforts........especially the packaging........It's yesterday once more!!!!!!! Bill |

So it sounds like these remasters are the ones to pick up. Kinda figured as much with Bob Irwin being involved.
Does anyone know whether any of the earlier Buddha titles have been or are soon to be deleted? I understand the Harry Nilsson titles are pretty good. |
