Different mixes on iTunes.

Today I put together different mixes from the new band Damage Plan (formerly Pantera) to be sold on iTunes. The neat thing is each track has the song without certain instruments. Track one is without vocals, track 2 is without drums, track 3 is without guitars, etc... They did this so their young aspiring rock star fans can add their own instruments and play along with the tracks. I thought this was a pretty neat idea. I see lots of downloads ahead.

Is anybody else doing this?

A really great idea! Especially with Apple's new "GarageBand" software.... pull these in, drop in your own guitar - instant rock star.

Re: Different mixes on iTunes.

Where specifically did you do this? How do you have access to individual tracks? Are you the mixing engineer for Damage Plan?

A magazine called Total Guitar puts out its issues every month with a CD sans the main guitar tracks so a guitarist can play along. The magazine is a bit pricey though, but it has some good stuff in it.

Total Guitar

Also, the Line 6 POD (not to be confused with IPOD) has a model that connects to a website where you can download tracks similar to Total Guitar's CD, sans guitar tracks. Some I think are even played by the real musicians (i.e Double Trouble). I have a regular POD, so I have never actually used this.

Jamie,

I woke up this morning and checked all my geek sites (Slashdot, etc) and found that you have been MacSlashed!
