    Gorgeous.

    What kind of speakers?

Thank you. The speakers are DIY using JBL 2235H woofer, Altec 802-8G driver on an Altec 511B horn and a JBL 077 tweeter. Cabinet is a combination of baltic birch, MDF and kerf MDF covered in sapele pommele veneer with about a dozen coats of gloss lacquer.

Randy how do you like the VTL's with the Maggies? Have you tried other amps?

Still in awe of these speakers and now that you've removed the cover and shown us what's in the boxes, I've GOT to hear them!

I think Maggies and high powered tube amps work best together, especially for small group recordings, vocals, and jazz. I tried a few high current solid state amps in the $10K and under range, including the CJ 350, but the sound was never completely satisfying to me over the long run. If you value a magical midrange over ultimate dynamics, then you might feel the same. For hard rock and metal you will probably want another speaker anyway.

These speakers are very revealing of every other component in the system. Once you have everything sorted, including speaker position, listener position, and perhaps most importantly the room, Maggies can reveal their capabilities.

My SX-3900 that normally does duty on my tech bench. It was the last stereo my father purchased before his death in 1984. Here it is pictured when I was testing some Apogee Duetta speakers that now reside in my shed after a cat tried to run up a bass panel. I still have the speakers, but the cat is gone. You can just make out the CT-F950 sitting behind it.

Very old joke, which wore thin years ago. Give the guy some slack (and read his profile, next time he posts, and then we'll be glad to see your apology).

    man cave

Here's a few pics of my "man cave" system. I like to switch things up once in a while so I have too many components. Also, space is an issue because of WAF, I have to keep a lot of records in this room and PC for work/video games/etc...
