*****Ian Anderson says the 40th remix sounds very clear to him. He was not happy with the original recording.

    Celebrating Chrysalis: Chrysalis 25th anniversary 1994 CDP32 1044-2

    http://thejethrotullboard.proboards...display&board=albums&thread=1653&page=1#10908

Released to celebrate 25 years of Chrysalis records - not to be confused with the completely different 25 years of Aqualung remaster (as found in The Ultimate Box Set-EMI Chrysalis).
Blue box Aqualung released in 1994 has a timing of 43:34.
I've concluded that the UK blue box CDP32 1044-2 inner ring CDP 321044 2 . 2 - :3:10EMI Swindon is the best balanced sound to my ears - hiss intact at an acceptable level and of all the versions I've heard, Up To Me is my favourite in sound here.

Other than the (best CD) DCC - I'll recommend these - all others were a disappointment to me. Aqualung on CD:
    same EAC as:
    WG Sanyo Japan 610 016-222
    WG Sonopress Germany 610 016-222

About that price. Here's the price sticker from the time of release. Only place I could find it, so I paid the HMV high Canadian$$.

Add: the navy blue jewel case is the same style as found in the Pink Floyd Shine On box.

Granted, product page is vague, but this will lock in my chance at their lowest price, + my Prime membership means free shipping as always.

Thanks for the heads up Tootull.

Ah! We will have uncompressed mixes after all. :righton:

But that awful moiré on the cover art is there; granted it's probably not an actual photo of the product.

Most important, we have a release date, AND a company asking a ridiculous price up front...practically guaranteeing lackluster sales, thus low print runs, and frantic collectors shelling out up to 5 times that once the become eBaylible...

Jeez, while I'd love to hear a surround mix of "Aqualung", I'm certainly NOT going to pay $148 + dollars, to do it. It's no bloody wonder why Ian Anderson still has all of his money these days!

    Same here. :sigh:

This will upset the hi-res fans, but how about a downloadable DTS-CD file costing say around $10?

For those not into surround formats, a DTS-CD uses the CD's .wav file system but instead of a stereo lossless format, the two channels are used as a "container" for a 1200kbps 5.1 channel file, which is approximately equivalent to a 400kbps MP3 stereo file.

    Advantages:

    * it would still sound good

    * the DTS format can be decoded by the millions of A/V receivers and all-in-ones that have been sold in the past 12 years

    * the DTS-CD .wav file can be burned to a conventional CD-R just like a "normal" CD .wav file, so no special software or hardware needs to be purchased by the end user.

    * any CD player or dvd player with a digital output can play such a disc....and there are lots and lots of those out there too!

    * to keep nervous label accountants calm, DTS is a lossy format so a hi-res/master tape quality file would not be floating around the internet as would be the case with a dvd's or Blu-ray's lossless 96/24 or 192/24 PCM file.

    * anyone with a broadband connection could download the file (albiet slowly for those with entry-level broadband), helping to increasing sales figures

As an alternative, a DTS file formatted for dvd use could be offered (and a lower data rate, down to around 730kbps, can be selected if the label chose to do so :(), but burning a disc for these is not nearly as easy as the above.

This is always the strangest part of this place. An anticipated product is finally announced with a pre-order. It's never up to the imagined expectations of forum members, so now they'll begin to pontificate about how it " should be " released...

It's DONE, OVER, FINISHED, kaput ! You either buy it the way it is, or don't. What part of OBVIOUSLY THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR BASEMENT BLUEPRINTS don't you get ?
