I saw a copy of Warner Special Products (1987) Highs of the Seventies at my favorite used CD store for $5.99 but I didn't have time to listen to it ... I noted that it is from the same time frame that gave us the wonderfully hissy Warner SP's "Ultimate Rascals", "Ultimate Otis Redding", "Ultimate Bobby Darin" and "Ultimate Coasters" ... anyone know if the "Seventies" CD sounds as good as the preceding?

I'm not sure Chip, but at that price I'd be willing to take the gamble.

Grab it. That BLINDED should sound much better than version out there now.

Strange they have the long version but the short HIGH TIDES.

I'd grab it; nothing on there made from a digital copy since they didn't have 'em yet.

Yep, this is a great sounding CD! If you can find its companion disc, Highs of the Sixties, that is worth picking up, too. I can also recommend a couple of other Warner Special Products CD's from that era, 20 Party Classics and More Party Classics. I bought all four years ago and still spin them with some frequency. Good sound, all the way around, IMO.

Another recommendation...a very cool disc. I have wondered about this disc over the years...did they use 1st generation masters on this one? It's doubtful that any of us would know for sure but a couple of tunes (IIRC) sound several generations removed from the master. Still, it's a fine disc and at $5.99, a steal.

Yes, a very fine disc. I got this too just to have the full version of "Blinded By The Light". I don't think you could find it anywhere else on CD at the time. I know I couldn't.

Wasn't the "Ultimate Box Tops" part of that series? Was it any good?

I'll third (or fourth. I've lost track) the recommendation for HIGHS OF THE SIXTIES, and I'll add one for ULTIMATE BOX TOPS (my copy is autographed by Alex Chilton :D ). Both sound great to my ears.

There aren't two different versions of this disc (one good, one bad) like the Rascals disc, is there?

Not as far as I know.
