I'm interested in stories from the past and present warning about the contamination of the youth by a certain band...tell me your story?

    Just Trying To Be

There was a time that you were so young and walked in their way,
They made you feel they loved you all seeing they say.
You're going wrong if their game you don't play,
and that the song I sing will lead you astray.

    Unfeeling, feel lonely rejection,
    unknowing, know you're going wrong.
And they can't see that we're just trying to be and not what we seem,
and even now believe that it's not real and only a dream.

Marilyn Manson got their share of criticism and banning, which is exactly what they wanted.

    Banned for any reason

I was at the concert where Marc Bolan of T.Rex was banned from Toronto's CNE for blowing up his amp without a permit. Unfortunately he did not live to challenge the ban.

It's obviously not a non-issue if the songs overt blatanness (is that a word?) is bothering people.

I thought this thread was going to be a screed against The Band (Robertson, Helm & co.); I'm disappointed. :D

Sorry I have nothing to contribute, but I wonder if anyone knows anything about Black Widow (of "Sacrifice" fame) they can share? Apparently they were into Satan and witchcraft and committed controversial acts onstage in the late sixties. I have to imagine someone got wind of that and protested.

Link Wray's Rumble was banned from many station's playlists, despite being an instrumental.

Yeah! How dare Robbie Robertson write those dangerous "historical songs" like "Acadian Driftwood" and "King Harvest." Who wants young listeners exposed to that kind of thing! :)

  22. The Beach Boys were banned from 4th of July concert on the Washington Mall in 1983 by James Watt, citing that they would draw "an undesirable element". It was great publicity for The Beach Boys and a disaster for James Watt because The Beach Boys had some powerful fans, President Ronald and First Lady Nancy Reagan and Vice President George Herbert Bush. The Beach Boys were invited to the White House to make amends and Reagan presented Watt with a statue of a foot with a bullet hole in it. :D

Isn't this usually the outcome of a ban on a band/act.

I would still like to know how the Stones were able to get away with the lyrics "half-assed games", on 1964 radio. "It's All Over Now" was a big US hit. I wasn't around, but my father swears that it was not censored. Was this just in the Northeast, or am I just wrong in assuming that "half-assed" was in anyway controversial back then?

The Vancouver band The Seeds Of Time were permanently banned from the city of Calgary, so the legend goes-though I can't find any details on this
