Seems like a no brainer doesn't it? Remastered album plus b-sides/outtakes on disc 1, concert recording from 1979 on disc 2. Short promotional tour of venues where the band performed in 1979, with set featuring a complete run-through of the DTT album.

    Wishful thinking?

Their best. Far less worthy albums have gotten the deluxe treatment.

I suggested this title for the deluxe treatment about a month ago. This was Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' commericial breeakthrough and strongest release overall (at least in my opinion). It spawned Petty's first Top Ten hits with "Refugee" and "Don't Do Me Like That" Other tracks got signifigant airplay on rock radio. The deluxe version could include "Casa Dega" plus a live show from that era.

Did Geffen do the "Backsteet" Records logo on this? or,just their own inprint? Or,is it the property of Gone Gator/WB (as his first two which precedes these are on)?

I saw a U.K. 12" 45 with Casa Dega on it yesterday. It had another studio song on that side which I can't recall and a live cut on the other side. What's the story on Casa Dega? I've never heard of it.

Is Casa Dega the only known outtake from the DTT sessions? It's hard to believe there aren't a few more outtakes, alternate takes and demos in the vaults.

It is interesting that Tom Petty has so far avoided the deluxe treatment. I have to imagine that Universal would be interested, since far less deserving albums have been reissued as deluxe editions.

I would love to see this album get the special treatment.:righton:
    Steve, are you doing anything?:D

Although my original vinyl pressing does sound real nice.

  11. Great, great album. I haven't played it for too long.

The original MCA CD doesn't need any "deluxification", but outtakes and live material would indeed merit release.

Somebody should check on Petty's official site and see if there is an e-mail contact or message board there and bring up the subject. It might eventually catch somebody's eye in the Petty camp.

I would get it for the bonus material you listed but the Mofi would be the version I would reach for most often.

It was recorded during the DTT sessions but was left off the album. It did wind up as the b-side to "Don't Do Me Like That"

Tom owns the masters to his first two albums. UMD owns everything from Torpedoes to Great Wide Open.

I believe neither Don't do me like that or California Rain where planned to be included in the sessions, being old songs. HBs jammed Don't do me like that during the sessions and Jimmy Iovine asked them to record it. With those additions Casa Dega probably didn't make the cut.

The Here comes my girl maxi you saw has Casa Dega and Don't Bring me down on the back side.
It sounds great ( the studio tracks) and is a porky cut btw.

    Very cool.

Since it's an independently produced project (the dvd), I'm fairly confident Stan will be in it. Bruce Gary (RIP) was involved in the GETTING THE KNACK dvd, and he and Doug Fieger (RIP) were in the same "frenemy" territory as Petty and Lynch.

from Play (UK site): "The DVD features newly filmed contributions from the band members Tom Petty, Mike Campbell, Benmont Tench, Ron Blair and Stan Lynch along with co-producer Jimmy Iovine and engineer Shelly Yakus as they analyse the tracks from the original multi-track tapes and through new and archive performances."

I kind of regret not starting a new thread about this now. I did on Visual Arts as didnt know if a discussion about a DVD should be started over here, my mistake.:sigh:

But as has already been confirmed, all band members contribute. The DVD is said to be 98 minutes long (very impressive,) and there's also a blu-ray version.
