I've heard differences between TosLink and Coaxial SP/DIF, but nothing to note as far as AES/EBU.

If you click on "2 used and new" there is one refurbished for $999. Authors description: "I bought one, and then upgraded it by wraping the whole cable in platnum foil. In fact I used the excess foil to make this nifty listening hat that also improves sound quality. Hat is optional."

Love the reviews  I thought it was a spoof, but it's for real, Jeez. :sigh:

  4. Hmmm, interesting thought. I guess the only way to properly listen to music backwards is to reverse the polarity of the cable at the receiver or amp output. ......As for the whole "cable direction" thing, I'm not so sure I buy into that (or whether the $500 cables are worth every penny of their 1,000 percent markup). I can think of better things to do with $500 (such as calling cable suppliers myself and buying quantities of different types of "their best", finding the best sounding of them, and selling off the rest). Then, if any of those choices aren't as good as the "brand names", I'm sure my imagination could pick the best one (ok, perhaps a bit or sarcasm there).

Perhaps much in the same way as those "For Digital" headphones (after all, the sound is already converted to analog at that point anyways, in regards to the headphones, that is). My thoughts on that one.

Can you please advise your cable break-in method and the time it took?

Interesting that they don't state the cable's CAT rating. Is it CAT 5? 6? 6e? 6e+?

In the real world there are actual bandwidth ratings on ethernet cable, which is really important and actually does make a difference.

I can even see the color coding - it's a common, generic ethernet cable

...in a beautiful woven jacket (to minimize vibration)

I use a DenonLink cable. Albeit not a $500 model. It came with my Denon DVD-3910 DVD player, and I use it to connect to my Denon AVR-4806CI receiver.

I don't recall any markings on the cable, it appears to be a standard Cat5e cable. It has worked perfectly, with no drop-outs, noise, etc. I would have to say, the DenonLink3 interface has worked absolutely flawlessly for transmission of SACD/DVD-A/Dolby Digital/DTS/PCM data from my DVD player :agree:

    Forgive this obvious question:

Does Denon Link use the same pin-out as a standard RJ45 Ethernet cable?

Yes. I swapped it out for a Cat5e cable one day, and there was no difference in sound or functionality.

I understand that if you color the connector ends with a green sharpie, it sounds even better!

oh yeah, these standard $5 ethernet cables i've sending this post through, they just writhe like snakes. in fact, i find it hard to type they're vibrating so hard. totally worth the $500, in my opinion.

yes, you will need at least 72 hours of continuous porn flowing through this thing until it hits peak performance.

Yes, they make a trans-gender model and depending on which way you 'direction' the cable you can be either AC/DC or DC/AC.

  21. If this cable came with a free Shakti stone and an audiophile magic marker as a bonus I would buy it in the blink of an eye since I would not only have the best possible sound, but they would also make my Lamborghini run a lot faster.http://www.shakti-innovations.com/

Will a good ethernet cable make my iTunes downloads sound better?

How do I know if my ISP uses decent network cabling that doesn't degrade the sound?

Shall I just download from the closest iTunes server or is there a particular server which sounds best?

What is the best daytime to download from iTunes, in terms of sound quality?

I predict that the audiophiles network transmission is the next big thing, after analog connections and power cables. I'm sure Monster Cable already has many patents in this area (the "Monster Cable audiophile intranet" etc)

People around here defend expensive cables all the time -- heck, they do so right here in this thread! And yet for some reason this cable, this ONE cable, is something to be mocked. People assign magical properties to audio cables and power cords all the time -- why not an ethernet cable? Shouldn't the same pseudo-science apply? If not, why not?

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for laughing at this cable, I just don't get the double standard.

Power cords work under the same methodology... miles of cable but only the last few inches can make a "night and day difference" in the sound.

So if the arrows are reversed then 10011010010110 becomes 01100101101001 and sounds horrible!
