I would like to know some of the best compilations with Kinks covers songs. I'm very interested in finding the original Kassner publishing songs that were done with many of the Pye artists like Dave Berry, the Applejacks, Roadhogs, Cascades, and all those other early beat groups. Is there such a compilation with these on there? Beyond that, I wouldn't mind any information about other releases that have some of that Davies magic being covered. The only one I own is the one that Mojo included with its magazine a few years ago. I like that for the most part, especially Holly Golightly's version of "Tell Me Now So I Know." Anyways, the main purpose of this thread is to find some of those original groups who obtained a brand new Davies song to record for themselves.
A good place to start for contemporary covers of the Kinks might be Sequel's eight volume series entitled Ripples. Quickly looking through them, there's a cover of "End of the Season" by The Uglys (on vol. 3, Autumn Almanac), among others. A lot of Pye artists are featured on this series. There are other Kinks covers albums, too. They range from the not-so-good (IMO) such as Give the People What We Want: The Songs of the Kinks to the very pleasant This Is Where I Belong: Songs of Ray Davies and the Kinks. There's another Kinks tribute album called Kinky Boot: Tribute to the Kinks, but it seems to be OOP and I can't really comment on it.

I remember hearing that there was going to be a Ray Davies/Kinks comp on Sanctuary that cover a lot of rarities and unreleased stuff. Pretty sure Ray decided against it and it was cancelled. One that was going to be include is a great song called "Nobody's Fool" by Cold Turkey. The intro is the same intro as Animal Farm but the rest of the song is unique. Fantastic track that's like a lost Kinks, late 60s recording.
