I believe he current SACD hybrid of the original Tubular Bells album contains a 5.1 mix...as for the 2003 re-recording, I've no idea. Maybe others here know otherwise...

The SACD of Tubular Bells contains the original quad mix (4.0 in current parlance). It sounds great and is a lot of fun!

    I agree.

If I'm not mistaken, this was the very first surround SACD, correct?

This thread died quite a while ago. Just wondering if anyone actually listened to Tubular Bells 2003 and can post their thoughts and opinions on it.

If you are intimately familiar with Tubular Bells the differences in the 2003 version will jump out at you even though they are subtle. The biggest difference is that John Cleese is the "announcer" since Viv passed away.

I've only listened to the CD once so I won't comment about the sound quality other than to say that I thought it was fine. Whether it is audiophile quality or not doesn't matter to me because I love Tubular Bells.

It's getting the DVD-A treatment this summer, can't wait!
Is the cd the newly recorded one? With John Cleese reading off the instrument names?

As for copy protection.....new Radiohead is copy protected up here in
