Interesting.

Anyone know?

Roscoe 11-20-2002 07:29 PM

This truly would be a shocker. According to the other FM members, Christine made it clear that she was retired and would not be participating in the upcoming FM project.

Lindsey has made some subtle jabs at her in recent interviews (something to the effect that nothing is really missing from the FM sound in the new album).

Or perhaps this is a reissue of one of her old solo albums (The Legendary Christine Perfect Album or her 1984 solo effort)?

I loved her on "Bare Trees", in fact, along with the Peter Green era, this is my fave FM. That other swooshy girl singer was not my cup of tea.

Steve Hoffman 11-20-2002 09:38 PM

Swooshy.

Funny!

lennonfan 11-21-2002 02:44 AM

WHAT????? You don't like the bleating lamb sounds of Stevie Nicks? What IS this world coming to????;)

Roscoe 11-21-2002 07:37 AM

Wow, there's definitely some anti-Stevie sentiment around here. I've always been a Stevie fan myself, but she does seem to inspire love-it-or-hate-it feelings with that larger than life stage persona and "unique" voice.

In any event, whether the Christine solo project is true or not, she will definitely not be rejoining FM anytime soon.

Too bad. Although many here prefer the earlier blues-based FM incarnation, you must admit that the vocal blend of Christine, Lindsey and Stevie provided some of the finest 3 part harmony of the 70s.

I agree, but give me the Buffalo Bills or The Roaches for serious harmony. I caught the Bills the other night while watching The Music Man, they were Hot! There is actually a few of their albums on Audiogon right now. My wife might freak if I play them though.

I agree. Future Games and Kiln House are also two good albums. Back in the late 1970s a friend who had recently come over to Canada from the U.K. and grew up with Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac (I think he saw them a couple of times) refered to the swooshy girl's version of FM as "pepsi-cola' music.

I do hope Rhino remasters the early Reprise FM catalogue up to Heroes Are Hard To Find soon.

I agree that others may offer "serious" harmony, and I was never a true FM fan - but I have to admit that their voices have a unique blend. Popular music is loaded with unique vocal blends - no one expects these performers to belt out operatic arias - hell, some of 'em barely can sing. Together they sound like nothing else:

Lennon and McCartney and Harrison and Starr (listen to Paul and Ringo singing "What Goes On", throwaway song, priceless harmony)

Crosby Stills and Nash (they haven't made a record I need to hear in decades, but they still sound like.... them!)

Yes - OK, Steve Howe sings in a monotone. However, it's pretty amazing that Anderson and Squire have built this three part into a distinctive sound around it.

Mick n' Keith - one may argue that neither can sing, however it's obvious when they wrap themselves around a country tune that the loss of either one is a loss.

Dave Edmunds and Nick Lowe - yeah they sound like the Everly Brothers. I think that's a good thing; they don't sound like them individually...

I could go on - but my point is that FM had a distinctive sound and the subtraction of an element will surely be missed.

This is usually when Steve brings "Alvin and the Chipmunks" into the discussion. But the Unc is right, it is all synergy. We also can't forget the beach Boys.

Wow, forgot all about Future Games!, time to get on my knees and dig through the 600 or so albums I rarely look through. So many things to do.

Maybe Stevie should think about getting a wardrobe consultant.

dwmann 11-21-2002 09:56 AM

Whatever anyone may think of Stevie Nicks, the performance on her first live concert video release (only available on VHS, and NOT the Red Rocks show, which is available on DVD ) with Roy Bittan of E Street fame on keyboards is incredible, and the version of Rhiannon on that tape (with a slow Bittan-at-his-best intro and a VERY extended final chorus) is electrifying. I urge anyone who has not seen this (whether you love or hate Stevie Nicks) to seek out a copy and watch this at least once.

Grant 11-21-2002 10:53 AM

I used to not like Stevie's voice. I've gotten used to it, and she sounds different now that she's older. But, it sounded fresh on "Buckingham/Nicks" too. It's just that it sounds...uh...interesting all during the classic FM years and through her 80s solo period.

Christine? She writes some terminally bubbly, happy music. I prefer her voice to Joni Mitchell's. They are comparable.

You're joking, right?

No, why would I? Most of Christine McVie's popular stuff is fluff, but I like it. I just don't get as much pleasure out of Joni Mitchell music.

Songbird is my favorite song off of Rumors

syogusr 11-22-2002 03:58 AM

There is absoultely no comparison between Joni Mitchell and Christine McVie, none at all!!

Fine, but you said:

Their voices are definitely not comparable.
