Bonzo Dog Band Cornology

What's the difference between the EMI UK version of Cornology and the just released EMI Australia version of Cornology. Is the track list the same is the sound quality the same. Was it NoNoised at Abbey Road? I'm thinking maybe the UK version (early '90's) might not have been NoNoised but maybe the new version is, since that's the EMI way now.

Hello audiodrome. Funny you should bring this up. Although it doesn't completely answer your question, I just received the U.K. box last Friday and have been playing it ever since.

Although I have not heard the Aussie set, I am very pleased with the sound of the U.K. version. One caveat, however, I am not really a hardcore audiophile so others may not be of the same opinion. The only "problem" I found was digital clicks on one of the first tracks on disc one (I think it was Equestrian Statue).

I'm curious if the Australian version omits Viv Stanshall's narration ("This is the B-Side of our platter, sportsfans...") from the intro of "Canyons Of Your Mind", as the UK version does.

This was symptomatic of a stupid 80's and early 90's trend, where CD producers thought we'd be confused if a song on a compact disc made reference to vinyl, so they'd just edit the reference out. Another example would be the omission of "First National Rag" ("We'll be right back, after you turn the record over") from Michael Nesmith's Complete First National Band CD set. Fortunately, the Bonzo's track is complete on the US One Way CD of Tadpoles, and the UK Awareness label CD of Magnetic South features the Nez track.

Just for the record there are three versions of "Canyons Of Your Mind". With or without intro – your right about the wrong version being used - and the American promo single which sports a completely different intro and vocal.

Where did you read about the new Australian version?

I've just checked all the local suppliers and the only one they have in their catalogues is the UK/European version. Quite a bargain at around $AU45.00.

Rhino used this version on their The Best Of The Bonzo Dog Band CD from 1990.

Was there ever a stock copy of that single? I forgot and had to look, but my copy ("I'm The Urban Spaceman/Canyons Of Your Mind" on Imperial) is a promo as well.

Was this really the "wrong" version? I understand the opening narration is on the single, some compilations, and apparently the American album, but I was under the impression that the narration was *not* on the original British album, which is what is supposed to be on "Cornology." (Bear in mind that the American and British albums have slightly different track listings, and that the narration makes a lot more sense on the B-side of a single than on an album.)

I could very well be wrong. Am I?

Maybe CDuniverse are sourcing it from Australia for some reason but the one I saw in a local store this week says "made in UK" on the back.

I'd be very surprised if there is a local pressing.

But it does have a newer release date (2002) whereas the UK version is from the early '90's. Maybe it's just a straight reissue?
