My regrets. I could have seen these. Some had short careers and i never got the chance or they just never came near me, or i blew my chance, or i didn’t care at the time, or i was in the mountains, etc. Meaning these bands or acts were around when we were going to concerts. As opposed to those before our time. For whatever reason here’s a bunch i regret not seeing: (There’s likely more i’m forgetting) 1. Husker Du 2. Soul Asylum (before the hits) 3. X 4. Bee Gees 5. Primal Scream 6. Lyres 7. Broadcast 8. Green on Red 9. Rain Parade 10. Harmonium 11. FM 12. Fleetwood Mac 13. Zappa 14. U.K. 15. Blue Oyster Cult 16. Hawkwind Lots of bands i loved like Squirrel Bait, Volcano Suns etc that i doubt ever came anywhere near most of canada where i am) I saw these but not when i would have liked to!: Butthole Surfers (late 80s, saw em 10 years too late) Bob Dylan (79-81, and 87 w the Dead) (I saw 86 w Petty then lots after but sadly missed these9) Wire (original four, seen without Gilbert) Black Sabbath (w ozzy, i saw dio) Robin Trower (w/ Dewar singing, i saw him in 86 w awful rock belter) Beach Boys (saw them in 2000s) Gordon Lightfoot (didn’t see him til late 90s) The improbable list: Cream reunion (across the pond, unfortunately) Velvet Underground reunion (also across the pond, unfortunately) Still holding out hope for: Hawkwind, X, Primal Scream, Rain Parade, Blue Oyster Cult
I have seen most of the great acts from the 60s...but there are a few I would loved to have caught The MC5.....saw DKT/MC5, saw MC50th in Detroit, saw Sonics Rendezvous Band 7x.....but never saw The 5 The Beatles....now this is funny for me to say....I am not a fan of early Beatles...some songs I really like (She Said Ticket Norwegian Hide your Love and such) but too many are sappy for my taste....but still would liked to have seen them....I think they would have been much much better live if they would have played live in the later years The original Rolling Stones lineup with Brian....saw them with MT and RW....69 73 my fav era but would loved to have seen Brian The Original Fleetwood Mac (Accept No Imitations) The Peter Green era.....yes they never sold as much as the Rumours group which was good pop music I saw them good show in 77....but I would have died to see them doing Rattlesnake Shake Oh Well Tutti Frutti Green Manalishi....etc....Rumours lineup is great stuff.....but the real deal for me is when Greeny was The Green God!!!!! I did get to met Greeny and get his sig....a thrill!!!! The Grateful Dead with Pigpen.....loved him, my favorite era! Quicksilver Messenger Service Velvet Underground Original Butterfield Blues Band with Bloomfield...wow!!!!
Cool list. I've seen a handfull of them but was just mentioning to my local record store clerk that I wished I'd seen Green On Red and Rain Parade. I'll also concur regarding Husker Du - I won free tix to see them from my local college station around '84 and blew it off because I wasn't familiar with them yet!
I was fortunate to see Ozzy/Sabbath late 70 or 71 with Black Oak Arkansas and Iron Butterfly...after Paranoid was out....great.... Saw BOC at Radford College just after Tyranny and Mutation.......they were unreal..... Both shows were great...cherish the memories!!!!
Broadcast at Local 506 in Chapel Hill, Oct 16, 2009. I couldn't convince my wife to go with me (she wasn't very familiar with their music) and I contemplated going by myself, but ultimately I decided not to go. I just figured there would be more opportunities to see them in the future. Who in million years would have thought that Trish Keenan would die from swine flu in January of 2011.
I passed on Zappa's 88 tour. Still kicking myself. Joe Strummer w the Mescaleros were playing the same night as Queensryche...while I loved the QR show I deeply regret not seeing him.
These are all bands or shows who I actually passed on seeing for some lame reason or another that I deeply regret; Bad Brains (I Against I era) Iggy Pop w/ Jane’s Addiction opening in 1988 Sonic Youth countless times from the late ‘80s till they broke up Veronica Falls
The Go-Go's Blondie The Bangles Micky Dolenz & Davy Jones on their "Together Again" tour Peter Noone when he played the casino lounge Micky Gilley Should have went to Gary Lewis when he also played the casino lounge, just to say I did
The Dead Kennedys. Finally went to see them on a festival in Belgium ages ago (my last chance to see them). Nothing else was interesting on that festival and it was nearby, so I went about an hour before Dead Kennedys would play...when I arrived people told me they just finished playing because the stupid festival organiser had moved them to another time slot. Could have shot myself (and the organiser) in the head that day !
The only one that springs to mind for me would be Neil Young with the original Crazy Horse line up.....lucky enough to have seen most of the “greats” that interested me over the years......
I had a similar thing happen to me with a Jerry Lee Lewis concert: He was set to play at a festival one night, but wasn't able to make it in due to bad weather, but the emcee said that he'd be there the next night at the same time the show I was at was supposed to happen. So, I get there the next night only to find out that they rescheduled him and he played during the afternoon-Yeah, I was pi****.
I would have gone to see Jefferson Starship in the late 70s but i don’t think they ever came to Montreal.
Queen - I didn't really start getting into them properly until the mid eighties, by which time they were about to, unbeknownst to us, stop touring forever. I could have gone to see the 1986 Magic Tour at Wembley or Knebworth as my step-sisters bf, at the time, went and I knew him well. But, I decided to wait and see them later, assuring myself that they would do another tour in a few years. Little did I know that Freddie had decided this would be his last tour and what the future had in store for Mr. Mercury. Shame really, and I've been kicking myself since. I did however manage to make the 1992 Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert in April '92, which was (mainly) fantastic.
It haunts me that during my adult life it has been possible to have seen at least some incarnation of Iggy and the Stooges Yet here I am, bereft of that destiny But they're crystallised on record for me. Forever. The Fun House LP can be my world entire
I wish I'd seen the following, all of whom performed at the Fillmore East, from 1968-71, where I was a regular attendee. Traffic Procol Harum The Youngbloods Fleetwood Mac Taj Mahal The Band Delaney & Bonnie The Kinks Van Morrison Seatrain Faiport Convention Paul Siebel Laura Nyro
Television (again) (you can't see them once and say you saw them) King Crimson 1972-73 Sinatra (on an on night with a hot band in the 80's) Jobim in the 80's or 90's John Fahey Beach Boys 1970-71 Replacements with Bob Stinson ( saw one of the last gigs and they seemed to be going through the motions)
Fairport Convention are still doing an annual tour and performing at the Cropredy Festival every year. They still have a credible line-up and put on a great show. Catch them while you can!
Jawbreaker Elliott Smith Fugazi Those are the big three. I could’ve seen the Jawbreaker reunion but I just felt like it wouldn’t be the same
