Yes, I said that “Rosemary’s Baby” prequel “Apartment 7A,” starring Julia Garner and directed by Natalie Erika James, will premiere exclusively on Paramount+ ahead of the Halloween season. Set in 1965 New York City, the film tells the story prior to the horror classic Rosemary’s Baby, exploring what happened in the apartment before Rosemary Woodhouse moved in. ‘Rosemary’s Baby’ Prequel ‘Apartment 7A’ from ‘Relic’ Director Heads to Paramount+ This Halloween i guess we knew it would happen.
Maybe the movie should be re-titled "WHEN ORIGINAL IDEAS RAN OUT", eh? Sheesh. → A plotline like that screams "Scraping the bottom of the barrel". On the plus side . . . it reminds of a 1972 made-for-television movie starring Andy Griffith and Ida Lupino. Anyone else remember that TVM? The exact name of it escapes me, but I think it was called THE STRANGERS IN 7A? I saw it a couple of times . . . decades ago. It also starred James A. Watson, Jr. I believe Andy was a building superintendent or some such whose attentions are swayed by a young woman in the building who has ulterior motives.
That was a 1976 TVM wasn't it? Not a theatrical film in the U.S. if I remember rightly. (It could've been released to theaters overseas like a number of U.S. TVM's were, I reckon, but I'm not sure).
Julia Garner is a great actress. Paramount did a good job with the show called The Offer about the making of the Godfather. Relic was the director's debut film and it was well done. I rewatched Rosemary's Baby a few years ago and it held up. I'll give this movie a chance, It might suck but there plenty of signs that it might be good too.
They get, or try to get her pregnant and she jumps out the window. I predict it will be glossier than the original and not nearly as creepy. Hereditary is a picture with a similar story of summoning a devil that I thought was very good actually.
When will we find out about Parsley's baby? I know, of course, that Sage's baby went onto a successful career as a Living Space Purification Specialist and Thyme's baby is still working in the field of Alternative Medicine, but Parley's baby seems like just an afterthought.
Reading the post above from 'felix unger' makes me want to listen to "Scarborough Fair" . . . can't imagine why.
it does have some influential people producing and you can't really discount a film anymore simply because it goes to streaming. A good scenario might be a stand alone story about the cult and the mysterious building being the tie between it and Rosemary's fate. It seems like a story that could be told without involving the first, excellent film.
"What apartment is it?" "SEVEN A" "Don't get excited man. Just cause I'm short I know..." Picture the Monkees showing up at the door
