So does she as she devotes a lot of time to gardening around our house. When the Dr. said today she shouldn’t overdo it, she made a face!
Kermit Ruffins: the Barbecue Swingers Live This is a live album of a performance played in New Orleans. Mostly smooth big band stuff, but all the tracks have a really nice laid back tone. (From DROffline MkII) (https://www.discogs.com/release/6800733-Kermit-Ruffins-The-Barbecue-Swingers-Live)
Thanks to @Sorcerer for suggesting this. Indian Summer was recorded by Chuck Nessa in 1981, only one of two sessions in Johnson’s name, an under recognized Chicago tenor sax player. The style, as @Sorcerer mentioned earlier, is mostly mainstream swing but not exclusively. The backing players, especially Paul Serrano on trumpet, are very good. A worthwhile outing.
Another Helen Merrill album I have not listened to in a long while. Steve Lacy makes this interesting. If there IS a typical Helen Merrill album, this is not it. "Jelena Ana Milčetić a.k.a Helen Merrill" Gitanes cd
I am sure that many are trying to figure out who is in each of those blurred photos on the wall. But, can anyone figure out what is in that teacup? And, where does Monk get those socks?
I know there's Monk, Jamal (or maybe Bobby Timmons?), Teddy, and maybe Fats (or maybe Art?). . . . Not sure about the teacup or the socks--those socks were probably not uncommon at the time.
I thought Jason Moran's recent work wasn't available on physical media, but I just noticed he actually has his own record label, YES Records, and they do offer them on CD and vinyl, though vinyl may be harder to come by - I think he may have sold out of vinyl copies of his latest album, which was rightfully one of the most acclaimed albums of the past year. This seems to be the ONLY place to get physical copies - his Bandcamp page seems to offer only non-physical editions of these albums - so I was thinking of grabbing a few CD's. Anyone here get any before and if so, is it basically a CD in a card sleeve or is it a digipak or something else?
Thanks man! I just found out they actually did list two different vinyl editions of From the Dancehall to the Battlefield both of which were clearly marked as a limited editions, but I guess they were taken down when they sold their entire stock. Looks like it was a really well done package, especially the more expensive one that was actually a test pressing (only 25 copies) with some very elegant extras.
Saw a fair amount, but heard very little; very glitchy here; gave up before it was over. Oh well, glad I didn't pay anything for it. Did it work for anyone else? There were a number of comments from others who had the same issues as I, no sound and lots of stopping/starting & freezing up; it's running on another tab, still no sound.
There was some beautiful video once the freezing reduced some, and Marshall Allen was looking pretty spry for 99 & 10 months or whatever, but sound is pretty essential for musical performances, and hearing as well as seeing would have made it a lot more enjoyable. I hope that SOME kind of permanent record of the event exists so that it's not lost.
Listened to these two great masters of classical pianism playing some of the finest Liszt's compositions for solo piano. Highly recommended for Liszt's music fans: https://www.discogs.com/release/16638027-Liszt-Claudio-Arrau-Nikita-Magaloff-The-Complete-Etudes
Keith Jarrett "Still Live" disc 2 ECM 2 cd set. Precious music for me since this frist came out (I bought it then on cassette).
