Billy Joel Mofi Stranger SACD on HMV Japan

Am kind of curious to see what Mofi do with this, but will be hanging on to my Sony disc for the 5.1 mix

 

Don't hold your breath - it's been listed at HMV Japan with May and then mid-June dates over the last couple of months. They've revised it to 30 June in the last week - expect that's still a tentative date.

I'd be delighted to be proven wrong.

Definitely not.

The U.S. Sony SACD is multichannel, though, and quite well done.

 

Kind of expensive. I had when it came out but had to sell it when times were especially bad.

Got it today from Music Direct and listened to the SACD layer right away. What I like about all the Mofi Billy Joel titles so far is how much they remind me of listening to the original LPs on my dad's system in the late 70s / early 80s as a young child.

"Moving' Out" - I don't remember the bass guitar being so low in the mix, but I didn't have that thought for the rest of the album. Standouts are the title track and the last 3 tracks. The most cluttered part of the record, the sax solo in "Scenes", is very clear so every instrument has room, and the sax itself is kept under control (not shrill).

I can't wait for the other titles, and please announce Streetlife Serenade!

That is what I am hoping for, especially when Glass Houses is on their intended releases. Streetlife Serenade is one of my favourits LP's by Joel.

 

The obvious question about this version is how it compares to the Sony SACD?

 

Is this only available from Japan? I was looking forward to upcoming Billy Joel SACD releases from MoFi, but was under the impression they would be available domestically, like Piano Man and Turnstiles. Was I mistaken?
