  1. Damned Damned Damned by The Damned. I have it five times: Original UK Stiff LP, German Stiff 2LP package coupling it with their second album, Sanctuary CD reissue, remastered 3CD anniversary edition, and finally as part of the Play It At Your Sister 3CD box that compiles all of their recordings for the Stiff label.

For me, this question is interesting but complicated to answer. Many albums have passed through my hands over the years. I have bought some of my key favorites and simply held on to them. The completist bone in my head has compelled me to purchase certain albums in multiple versions and formats.

I've owned several copies of "The Beatles".

I haven't purchased many albums because mine wore out, but I bought many Badfinger albums because I was afraid that they would. To this day, I could probably assemble 8-10 complete boxed sets of sealed Badfinger LPs, including Apple, Warners, and even the Iveys if you count the 1980 pirate. I have Licorice Pizza to thank for that; in the late 70s, they sold most of the Apple releases sealed with no cut-out marks for $2.99-$3.99. I also have two copies of each cassette, an unplayed set of 8-tracks, and bunches od CDs.

Several years of living in Japan left me with many pressings of the Carpenters albums - first, I bought the Canyon reissue pressings; then, I picked up the King originals. Just before I left there, I bought their boxed set of albums on CD - yeah, the original white one from 1988. Of course, I have always had their US LPs on A&M.

The winner by far seems to be Akiko Kobayashi's "Fall in Love", her debut album from 1985 on Japan's Fun House label. In collecting her records and CDs, I've purchased some multiple-item lots in order to get one in particular. Sometimes, misunderstandings with foreign selers have lead to superfluous copies. This LP was also released in Hong Kong on four different vinyl colors; my quest to obtain all four has brought me a few extras.

I just verified at least 25 copies: 16 LPs, 6 CDs, and three cassettes. Oh, and to those that care about such things, my CD copies are black triangles.

Got a few Wish You Were Here and a few different versions of several of the Doors albums (just found a Doors S/T DCC yesterday), but for me the album I'm addicted to buying is the Dark Side of The Moon:

    1) Vinyl - Harvest
    2) Vinyl - 30th Anniversary
    3) CD - Harvest US 1st issue (Japan pressing)
    4) CD - Capital US issue (US pressing)
    5) CD - Harvest UK issue (pressed in UK)
    6) CD - 20th Anniv (Dutch issue)
    7) CD - 20th Anniv (US issue)
    8) CD - 1992 Remaster (didn't realize it was the same mastering as the 20th)
    9) CD - 30th Anniv hybrid SACD
    10) CD - Japanese mini-LP

Still haven't found a good deal on an MFSL, but I could kick myself for not buying one of those when I used to see them in the stores in the early 90's. I was a teenager and not into spending $20+ on a CD back then.

Mine isn't a matter of multiple copies but I bought the first Ramones album 4 or 5 times.

First time: loved it, wore thin quickly, traded it in.
Second time: loved it, wore thin quickly, traded it in.
Third time, etc. : you get the picture.
This even carried on into the CD era with "All the Stuff and More."

The late Robert Palmer described the Ramones in terms something like "a one joke band." Now I actually like them, but am completely satisfied with Rhino's "Ramones Anthology." That one I've kept.

Like hell it is. Those two albums are fabulous. :)

Have you ever gotten to hear the German direct-metal White Album? I bought a copy off eBay last year, someone was selling what they thought was a scratched copy... turned out it just needed to be cleaned. :D

Anyway, I brought it over to my friend's house, and we compared it against a UK original. Very interesting experience. If memory serves, the UK original had a bigger drum-punch with the treble, but my DMM has an amazing bass sound.
