You can make a copy of the disc and reverse the channels yourself. It's not hard to swap channels in an audio editor, and it shouldn't change the sound at all because you aren't changing the volume or eq.

Thanks! So as long as mine doesn't say 1992 or Gastwirt or HDCD on it anywhere, I'm OK, right?

Yes, and look for the old school silver disc with a red ring around the perimeter. And red writing on a white spine. All good signs.

Mine has this stuff, but it was made in Germany, so I was curious if it was different, especially because it doesn't sound in the same league as Barry's Deja Vu. :sigh:

Barry, what about Foreigner's S/T CD, did you master this one? I just got a copy of this CD.

George, the Gastwirt has 82651-2 on the spine and says "Digitally remasted from the original master tapes by Joe Gastwirt at Ocean View Digital" in the back.

The Diament has 19117-2 but the European pressing might have a different number.

    Hi George,

I must once again invoke the raggedy-old-memory-cells defense.
(I'm reminded of almost any politician at a Congressional investigation:
    "Um. I don't remember."
The difference being that I'm not trying to obscure the proceedings.)

I'm thinking I did do this CD, from a digital, EQ'd limited copy made during vinyl mastering. (There were a few Foreigner CDs I did, all from sources like I just described.)

    Best regards,
    Barry

Thanks Barry! Like I said, it sounds great and it's Atlantic, so I figured it's gotta be you. Nice full sound.

Removing "Selling England By The Pound" as there are no confirmed pressing that use Barry's (re)master. Unreleased? Barry, did you mention in another thread your master of Genesis "Genesis" was released?

    Hi Darcy,

Others the memory cells are suggesting (all from EQd, limited tapes made during vinyl mastering):
    "Double Vision"
    "Head Games"
    "4"
    "Agent Provocateur"

I was the "CD Mastering Department" at Atlantic when these came out and I remember the albums. This makes me think I might have done the CDs as well.

I thought I did a version of this while I was at Atlantic. I'm pretty sure I also did this directly for Genesis after I left Atlantic.

Sorry, I just don't remember if the original release was my work.
And I don't know if any of the ones I did after Atlantic got released.

    Best regards,
    Barry

    Hi Barry,

I Have "Kitaro - Ten Years" 2 CD set on Geffen that says you mastered it. Do you know what sources you did that from?

    Pat

  15. Hello Darcy,

    nice list.

Barry is listed as the CD mastering engineer in my copy of "Run With the Pack", and when I compare the sound quality on the "10 from 6" compilation with the other titles you listed, I am almost certain he did the other Bad Company CD's also. They have that same kind of signature sound we all like (well, many of us anyway).

    Hi Pat,

That one was done after I left Atlantic and formed BDA.
At BDA, I got original mixes (i.e. the real masters) as sources for all my work.

    Best regards,

Interesting, I just pulled out Liverpool, the second album from Frankie Goes To Hollywood (1986 Japan-for-USA, Island/ZTT 90546-2) and there in the credits is "CD Mastered by Barry Diament, Atlantic Studios)".

    Hi Captain Reg,

Good question. And a tough one.
    I have two answers:

Of all the older projects, I'd have to say the Marley re-masterings I did in 1990 are probably the ones I'm most proud of.

There was a personal change in direction for me around the time I did those and I feel that for me, those CDs marked one of those plateaus folks reach in any career, when their skills take a step upward.

Of the personal projects, Work of Art's "Lift" probably marked another one of those plateaus for me. I learned how to push the sonic parameters more, while getting more "out of the way" at the same time.

    Best regards,
    Barry

Thank you for your response. I know it is quite the loaded question for any artist.

I appreciate your creative growth and series of plateaus that you have reached as you ascend.

Thanks for the sonic memories. :righton:

Hell's bells. I have the Euro version (ZCIDQ8 / 90546-2 / 257896; blue-swoosh Island logo on the CD; matrix 257 896 C) and can't find a mastering credit. If you're set up to do EAC peaks, do you mind PM'ing me a set?

    Hi Mike,

As ledsox pointed out, this is likely a carryover from the vinyl mastering credits.

I mastered the original CD releases for "October", "Boy", "War" and "Under a Blood Red Sky". (I'm not sure about "Joshua Tree" - the memory cells have long departed.)

    Best regards,
