At some point, before the machines and gadgets, before the Dolby NR or waveforms, it was the music that you enjoyed. Maybe just a little?

The music did – and still does – something to you. Perhaps it brings you back to who and where you once were for three or four minutes, reminding you of a time and place. You might even enjoy some of the newer music that’s out there, hopefully because it is simply that good.

Sure, you dig the heavy stock covers of those original Frank Sinatra albums with the turquoise labels. You enjoy it when you pull your mint copy of that Hollies UK vinyl out of an Emitex inner-sleeve and it fights back just a little. You took a great deal of time and care to collect all of those SACD's and you think that the sound is amazing.

But when was the last time you forgot about hiss or compression or stereo or mono or mp3 or SACD for a few hours and really just listened?

If you are so blessed to have a few hours for this and the ability to do so, I implore you.

Whether it is a box of cassettes from 1988, a mono 45 from 1963 or the SACD collection, I feel that to truly enjoy this hobby of ours, means to occasionally take some time out to forget about all the background noise of life so that I can listen and enjoy.

I’ve not truly listened and enjoyed often enough in the last year or so, instead spending time on the collecting part of the hobby. But, I’m painting the spare room in the our house which will be a dedicated listening room and I should have the gear set up in a week or so. I am excited that for the first time in my 42 years, I’ll have some dedicated space for this! I'm hoping for 4-6 hours a week of uninterrupted solo listening, but then again, I'm an optimist.

What about you? How often do you really have a chance to really listen and appreciate all the great music you collect?

AuriCap, Audio Note, M-Cap, V-Cap, Sonicap, Mundorf, etc.

I found those brand while doing research online but don't know much about them, nor having any experienced on them. It seems like all of them has pros, and cons, so it's very hard for me to make my own decision.

I'm trying to find good caps to be used in my beloved pair of McIntosh MC-30. :)

After readings on many site, I'm with AuriCap now.
1. Would you guys please give me any advise, or comment on those caps?
2. And Is it worth to pay 3-5 times more to go for Audio Note, V-Cap, or other expensive boutique caps.
3. Please also suggest the source i can get them at good price.

All comments are appreciated. Thank you very much in advance. :nauga:

Need Speaker Placement Advice Please!

I moved recently and have set up my stereo in my bedroom. Based on what I could glean from what I have read and working with the limitations of the room, this is the best I have come up with:

- Measuring from Center to Center, the speakers are 31" apart (this is fixed, unfortunately)
- Both speakers are 15" from the rear wall (this is adjustable)
- The Left speaker is 3' 9" from the side wall (this is fixed)
- The Right speaker is 2' 7" from the side wall (this is fixed)
- No toe in or out
- Speakers are on stands that put the tweeters at ear level
- Listening position is 6' from the front of the speakers (this is adjustable)

Here's a link to my speakers - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009YWCT4/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_2?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B0002ZSFTQ&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1WT30DQ5SJWZ3PCD4B8B

Any suggestions regarding getting the maximum sound from this setup? My main concern is how well can speakers perform when they are that close together? I left a setup where I had about 8' between the speakers, so this sounds very different. Do I just need to get used to it? Do you think toeing out is a good idea with speakers that close together?

This may be a vague description and it's not a subtle comedy song in any way!
It's a crooner-style ballad, some lyrics I remember "Hey there, you with that..."(that's as far I can remember it). The voice is fine in a Andy Williams-style, but the comedy part of it (I think it's funny...:hide:) is that the singer has a terrific *lisp*! Not a bit of a lisp, but a Daffy Duck-like f*rting noise every time a "s" or a "th" turns up.
Any ideas?
Thank You!

I also have a couple discs of William Burroughs, he could reading casserole recipes and they would sound interesting..
Most recently I picked up a copy of the Jack Kerouac Collection, which is a 3 discs set that compiles all his spoken word. I havent had a chance to listen to it yet though...

So, anyone into this kind of stuff?

In an earlier thread (http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=197907), with help from forum members, I posted sound samples of various pressing/issues of the three Sinatra titles that have recently been issued on vinyl. Now that those three are done, we are moving on to other albums. Because of the season we are entering, I am starting with 1957's A Jolly Christmas from Frank Sinatra. Samples from 4 releases are posted at the site below, and I anticipate adding some other LP samples soon.

Please have a listen and share your thoughts in this thread. The link to the samples is:

If you wish to discuss one of the earlier reviewed titles, please see here (http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=197907). For "general Sinatra/Capitol sound issues," please see here (http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=199626&page=16&highlight=sinatra).

Thanks,
