Hi,

NOT! This Ebayer is talking B.S.

The Grateful Dead were McIntosh people but they did not take 240's on the road. The Grateful Dead used McIntosh amps that were designed by Mile Nestorovic in the late 60's. These were tube amps that put out 350 watts each! I have all the info, model #'s, etc. at home if ya want more info. BUT the bottomline, is this guy is talking trash.

Hi Ron,

Yeah, his description is a joke. :) Problem is somebody is liable to believe him and pay way too much for the amp as a result. Wonder if the unit even works?

As for 240's, me thinks it's about time for Ron to score one. Come on over to the other side. ;)

You might be able to find a pair of Mac 30's cheaper. Same sound, a bit more tubelike due to the tube rectification rather than the SS rectifier in the 240....(How they squeeze 10 more watts out..)

Steve is that price for real on the 2 60's? Yikes!

Steve, if i did look for a pair of MC 30's, what would need to be done to match them? I'm assuming that the the tubes would have to be matched, anything else?

Nah, nothing else really. I've used pairs that had a 1956 and a 1960 manufacture date. They sounded the same.

I want the MAC 30. Gotta save some bones.

The McIntosh 30's are my all time favorite of the Mac line. They have a glorious midrange unmatched in ANY other amplifier, by anyone, including McIntosh!

I have a 1960 matching pair that they will bury with me!

Hi,

Went home last night and checked out my stuff. The Grateful Dead used 14 McIntosh MC3500's in the late 60's and early 70's. These mono babies put out 350 tube watts ea. for a total of 4,900 tube watts per show. Mile Nestorovic designed these amps in 1968. The Dead always believed in treating their fans to the best sound possible.

I've heard that too, that the GD was into good sound. But not quite yet when I heard them in 1968, at the comm. College inside the student center! Could'nt see or hear much, just a jumble of sound!

Wow! $3250 for the pair! Now I'm gonna go home and check the serial numbers on my MC30s to see if they're consecutive!

Come to think of it, I think I'd rather just power them up and put on one of my two-eye Columbia Duke Ellington LPs. :)
