A buddy of mine has a pair of ADS 710 loudspeakers that sound(ed) very nice. The surround material on the two midrange/woofer drivers has disintegrated, on both speakers, which causes them to rattle and flap when excited by low frequencies. The material feels/looks like frail paper/insulation material. The drivers were Camber. He was wondering if they can be repaired or if new woofers can be substituted without dramatically changing the sound of the speakers.
I would think so, but I was looking for some feedback and advice from the experts here. Anybody have any experience with speaker repair?
There are several places around here that can easily repair the surrounds. I believe there are places on the 'net, too.
Check your local hi-fi shops... they may know of a repair place locally.

Hey Beagle,
If you're in Toronto try StudioLab 416-757-3265. As of about 4 years ago they offered repair kits and/or full service reconing.

I replaced the foam on the 11" woofers of my AR3a speakers myself. It worked just fine. Then I tried to do the same on the 5 1/2" woofers on my Linn Tucan speakers. I found that replacing the foam on small speakers is way more difficult than replacing the foam on large speakers. If I had to do it again, I would send the speakers out to be refoamed.

Thanks everybody!
I found a place during my lunch hour that can do the refoaming. The fellow showed me a pair of Paradigm speakers that had been redone and they looked great.
