View Full Version : Tenderfoot SACD Question
I'm not a rich man but I try to get the best quality sound within my means. Is the Sony DVP-NS755V worth the $220 price or would I benefit more from really irritating the wife and spend more? And on what?
My receiver is a Yamaha HTR5490 and I have Infinity Overture II speakers.
I try to incorporate decent quality in both music and movies.

Me, I'm just a mid-fi person.
my cd changer died anyways, or I probably would have held out longer!
I bought a sony SACD/DVD/CD 5 disc changer. I feel, on my system anyway, a new 200 dollar CD changer sounded better than my twelve-year old 700 dollar changer. I mean the CD part. And this plays SACD and DVD, too.
I've never auditioned any expensive SACD players.
Value wise, the Sony stuff seems like a good deal to me.

I don't know about your Yamaha HTR5490, but a lot of A/V receivers digitize all analog inputs, usually at CD resolution. If your Yamaha does this then you will not gain any advantage from SACD unless you also upgade to a receiver which has a totally analog signal path.
I have a Sony 775 which plays SACD. It cost me $200.00 (Canadian) and sounds lots better than my old Technics changer. They are sort of hard to find these days....
Someone once commented that you'd get better sound from a SACD player that did not have video circutry in it.
I can't confirm that but it sounds logical!

Sput,
Do you need a DVD player. If so, the then the cost of the NS755V is worth it all on its own because you can always use it as such. Will you hear the ALL the benifits of SACD, of course not. But, you will hear many of them, and that alone should justify the purchase.

Get the Sony. I bought a 775 when they were $500 and still think it was worth it. If your Yamaha has analog inputs, then you'll be ok... just look for analog inputs.

My Sony ES pre-amp has analog inputs but still converts everything to digital before it changes it back to analog for the speakers. Totally destroys the SACD sound. Be careful.

The previous Sony model in the same price bracket had the possibility of turning off all video circuitry. The new one might have it too.
It seems that combo players are the new standard, at least for mainstream brands.
I got the 775. It was the only one they had (Circuit City). The display model. It ROCKS! Best $129 I've spent. The kid told while it was on display he'd never seen it played.
It's a shame when 6 audio cables cost nearly as much as the player.
