Thanks to the same friend who kept me updated on the new Dr Who, She has now sent me the first two shows of this spin off. i really like it. Its darker and a bit more "adult". The two main stars have been on the new Dr Who show but only one plays the same person as before. Captation Jack is a cross between Indianna Jones and the good Dr himself.

So far I said, I do love this show and we here in the States can only hope the Sci Fi channel does not sit on it for 2 years. They dropped Stargate SG1 and are showing WWF on the network. They need shows like this!!!!:goodie:

As mentioned on another forum, notice that "Torchwood" is an anagram for "Doctor Who."

I saw the first two episodes on TV while I was in England for the past couple of weeks. I quite enjoyed it. The episodes are about 45 minutes long. That means that if they are picked up in the US/Canada, they would run for an hour with commercials inserted. No editing would be required.

Cheers,
Chris

Episode 2 was certainly 'adult'!

I don't think that I have ever seen Cardiff look quite so good as it does in this show.

As a very, very big Doctor Who fan, I'm very much looking forward to seeing this show.

Same here! I'm ecstatic about the new DW series 2 on Sci-Fi (I hope it gets good ratings!) Let's hope they get this series sooner rather than later.

IMO, the first season only gets better and better with each episode. So if you enjoy the first two episodes, you're in for a treat as things progress!

Don't bet on it. The content is bound to get some meticulous editing if shown on the Sci-Fi Channel or any other non-pay cable or broadcast network. It's a great series, let me repeat that one more time, ...a GREAT series, but some of the language and sexual content will undoubtably be deemed too adult for American audiences (not so much for violence as the candid portrayal of heterosexual & homosexual relationships). My suggestion: get a region free player and buy the British DVDs; you won't regret it! :D

I've been loving the show so far, I'm so grateful my cable system carries BBC America. At any given time the majority of shows waiting for me to watch on my DVR are from BBC America!

That would be a real shame, were that to happen. The "real world" adult content makes the fictive universe of the series edgier and draws you in by making the characters seem more real, it is way more character driven than Dr Who for example.

Indeed. Universally, I think most adults appreciate sophisticated, character driven stories, but sometimes prudish interests intervene (apparently for some folks intimate sexual relationships, strong language and occasional nudity are taboo). When that happens the stories get watered down and the characters usually end up being two dimensional.

They tried to recreate Cracker over here, but never achieved the classic flawed hero of police psychologist Robbie Coltrane's gambling, ill mannered, heavy smoking, philandering personae because they toned down or eliminated most of those human faults. It was a real tragedy that such a classic concept failed to find an audience, but in essence what makes that character work are his imperfections, and those very imperfections weren't politically correct.

We have Region 2 DVD series of Torchwood, Life On Mars (complete), Jekyll, et al. The concept and execution of the stories are typically brilliant and the acting superb. While some British series may be acquired for re-release over here complete and unedited on Region 1, NTSC formated DVD, I suspect that most are being released in edited form, as they were for American commercial television (like Spooks, which was edited down and aired here as MI-5).

Anyway, to make a short story longer, I completely agree, zobalob! :righton:

I'm loving this series! I had seen the first two a few months ago and was mightily impressed. An adult sci-fi show, who'da thunk it?!!

I see it's winning awards already.

I must say, I'm getting to the point where I go straight to BBC-A. MI5, Doctor Who, Torchwood, Robin Hood, Jekyll, et al: a real feast.

BBCA are definitely censoring the dialogue. I noted the c-word-that-rhymes-with-"bunt" got edited out on the episode that aired this past weekend (at least from context that's what I think she said). :shh:

I love the concept and like what I've seen so far though I don't know how well Barrowman will hold up for me over the long term. Even in the Dr. Who episodes that introduced his character, it seemed like he was cast as eye candy rather than for his acting chops.

Ok now that this is out on DVD I feel i can finally intelligently comment on it--it's a good show that focused waaaay too much on the sex and gore angle the detriment of developing strong stories and characters. It's like...oh I'm so sad he's dead--LET"S JUMP INTO BED AND HAVE SEX. It just doesn't fit sometimes. Also, the writing is wildly inconsistent during the first season.

I assume the sex is a bigger part of it. I don't mind over the top as long as the writing is solid. It seems like they have writers who don't known anything about dramatic structure, pacing or tone working on some of these episodes.

I lost interest after the first few episodes. The girl with the dark hair-the cop-don't know what her name is-her bad teeth made it hard for me to even watch her on screen.

She does have a pretty nice caboose, and really nice eyes...

And I like here Welsh accent.
