View Full Version : Digital audio editor--what do I have here?
To any professional recording gurus out there; maybe you know something about this piece: It is a Sony RM-D7300 Digital Audio Editor.
I only see serial connections on the back, no optical or coax input or outputs. In what capacity could this be used? Is it still of any value? It's just sitting in my closet now, I don't know what to do with it.

What kind of tape does it take? Is there a tape slot? Maybe you have just an editor controller like for their old DAT editors. I think they were 7300 series also.
Does it look like an old pong game or is it a tape machine?
Sorry for the dumb questions but when I get a tech support call from my studio my first question is always "is it plugged in?"
No, there is no tape slot. Just a big jog dial other buttons to manipulate time, delay, cut, etc. Can this only be used with DAT recorders?

What you have is an editor controller for their 7300 series DAT editors machines. They were great machines but I'm not sure how many people use them anymore. DAT is almost dead.

Agreed. If my memory served it used a serial connection for the controller. It could be a RS-232 port to update the firmware on the unit, but I doubt it.
