View Full Version : Stupid Question Regarding DVD-A

Hello
I just bought a DVD-A player and upgraded to a receiver with the analog inputs for it.
I'm not really interested at this point in the surround mixes, but I have a question regarding hi-rez STEREO output...is hi-rez stereo only available through the analog outputs or is it also available through my coaxial connection?
Thanks,
Jason

Sending the info through coax will dummy down the connection. Both SACD players and DVD-A players have onboard DAC's that are best used analog. Use the stereo outputs if you want what's expected in the experience.
I can listen to Classic Recs DVD-A's through coax, but that's PCM downsampled. It sounds fine, but that's not it.
For DTS listening from DVD-A, obviously the Coax is important.

Thanks, Sckott
I wanted to make sure I was doing it right the first time.

Which bad boy did you buy? The JVC?

I got the Toshiba SD-4800 and a Denon AVR-3803.
I love the receiver!

My buddy got the AVR-3803. It sounds great, and it's used in custom installations too.
Not bad. Truth is, you do need a pre or receiver that can handle Mch correctly :)

Hi Jason,
I have the Denon 3300. The five channel stereo is a nice feature if you have 5 identical speakers.

Man, I wish I had the room for three more JBL S312s.
I think it is my lack of identical speakers that's keeping me from getting excited about 5.1 music.
I'd have been happy if SACD had won the format wars early.

Hi Jason,
Denon makes a pretty good receiver. They always have. I am currently
using a AVR-3300 as a pre-amp for my Anthem Mark V amplifer.
Congrats on your new purchases.

Most all system setups should have 5 identical speakers. I know this is very impractical, but that is the reality of the situation.
