There are many of us that use MDs, myself included.

I do! Great on long plane rides. I do needle drops to MD, and it does not sound half bad. My MD recorder/player is ancient. I got it in 1999.

I seldom use MD and I too think they sound pretty good. Imagine if we could to CD what you can do to MD. Now I may have to start using my MD player again.

I use my home deck MD player often, (My portable alas has been ignored in this ipod age, though it is the cutest and best "walkman" i ever had).

I mostly use MD to tape vinyl to listen to as background, when i'm not serious listening. I think it makes a nice sounding "copy" of vinyl and i dont have to flip so often.

I can often fit 4 mono lps onto 1 mini disc using the mono record button...then i'm in Ella or Frank or Beatles heaven for 2 1/2 hours at a clip.

i also use it to record stuff off the radio, concerts, radio interviews, etc....

Thanks for the heads-up! I'll have to go check out a couple of the local stores.

I don't use my MD decks very often anymore but I still keep them around, no use getting rid of them when they work.

Thanks Soundboy. I need to see if my local Target has any.

I have two portables that I still use. They work great!

I bought a NetMD player a couple of years ago. Unfortunately I can't load music into it since the Sony program has been giving me the fits. (It detects the player, but won't recognize it in the software; Sony support was no help, other than to suggest dumping the newer version for an older one.) I like the ability to rip CDs faster to MD via the computer, vs. real time on my MD deck. It's my lone portable format, especially since it doesn't skip for me, and gets a good lone life out of a single AA battery.

Mine's in the spare bedroom closet

It was indispensible back in 1996-2000, but once CD-Rs got so cheap, and my Nano makes every other portable device seem gargantuan....well the poor MD didn't stand a chance.

I still use mine a bunch. I have the original 1st minidisc recorder, the MZ1, and it still works great. I also have a small Net MD, the MZ-NF610, which I use when traveling. Lately I have been considering purchasing the newest and maybe last, I hear, Sony MiniDisc Player/Recorder, the MZ-RH1. It is the most sophisticated ever, and will allow your to copy any tracks as WAV files on your computer, without having to check in / check out music. It also allows you to use the MiniDisc as a 1 gigabite flash drive, transfering data and pics to and from your computer. As if that wasn't enough, it also has peak control meters for recording. You can check it out here...

Still using mine mainly for LP transfer - the editing facilities are incredibily easy to use and for loading CD's onto for playing on a portable player whilst making my way to work on the bus.

I wouldn't be with out one .

One thing worth noting is the Hi-MD models often have Atrac 3 with DSP-S for Long Play recordings. I found the quality on LP2 was a lot better when recorded on such a machine compared to the first recorders with Long Play.
I used it to copy 'Caught In The Act' onto 1 MD (see that thread on the music forum for the story) last weekend.

I also use it for pre-editing material into suitable program lengths for recording my own 8 Track tapes - less fiddly than working direct with the records.

Keep on using 'em

Still use mine...mainly to make copies for the car.

Shame they never took off and the large capacity md's should have come a lot earlier.

You can do that with all Sony Hi-MD player/recorders, as long as you use the most recent version of the Sonic Stage software. I've transferred plenty of WAV files from it without restrictions, and used it as a flash drive too. I've had it since 2004. Great little unit - I use it in the car mostly but I have also employed it to make field recordings.

I also have a NetMD I got back in 1999 - but I let the kids use that now. Still works fine.

Hi,

I still use them at home, at work, and in the car on occasion. I have a Sony MZ-R 37 portable, a Sony MZ-R 500 Net MD, and a Sony MD-JE 480 home deck. I have Sony Pro decks, Tascam decks and HHb Portadiscs at work!

Nobody has mentioned recording live shows yet?

I know at least a couple of producers for radio morning shows that use them for on-site recording, for instance when the morning show goes to an event, records their listener comments, then plays them back the next morning for some sort of "you are there" segment.

I still use MD. Great format. I have a Kenwood MD-2070 in my main stereo system that I bought about five years ago on closeout from Crutchfield. It's a great deck. Then I have a Sony MXD-D3 CD/MD deck in my "media room" for dubbing CDs to MDs.

When I moved into a new house a few months ago, I pared down my second stereo system, so I no longer have an MD player there. It was a compromise I made with my wife. ;) Sadly, I have a Sony MDS-JB930 deck in a box. I'd love to be able to set it up in the second system. :(

Anybody ever record MD w/MP3s to CDR?

I bought my first MiniDisc deck back in 1998, and I've been enjoying MiniDiscs ever since. :)

Then I have a Sony MXD-D3 CD/MD deck in my "media room" for dubbing CDs to MDs.I have one of those, too. Works great.
