Sam and I are talking a poll. Can you list your favorite country/western singer?

Any era. Just one name per poster, please.

This will really help us out.

Thanks, friends!

I could narrow it down to 2: Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline.

Damn, this is a tough one.

I gotta go with Patsy Cline. No female singer in any genre of music moves me like Patsy. I just love her !

Not much of a fan, I blame it on being forced to watch HEE HAW in my youth. But I pick Carl Perkins.
Honerable Mention, Elvis, Scotty, & Bill.

Steve,

Are we going for singer or artist?

Patsy Cline is my favorite singer, while Merle Haggard is my favorite artist.

Overall, I would go with Patsy because I think that I would pass out if I was able to hear a "Breath of Life" version of "Faded Love"! I get chillbumps just thinking about it.

Thanks,

Tony

Ray Price. We need more Ray Price on CD, please. The current greatest hits that's out there is all Cedared-up.

Good question!

Not being a BIG country fan, my vote goes to k.d. lang.

One of the most gorgeous voices I've ever heard.

Although not a country album...buy "Drag".

I love ingenue, but I never seriously checked out her country albums. Amazing voice, though, agreed. And a really odd choice to be sitting amongst my collection of Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer, and Testament CDs. ;)

I totally agree with you on her voice. She's the only person I've ever heard do justice to a Roy Orbison tune.

As for my favorite C+W artist. There's only one choice for me...The Queen Of Country...Tammy Wynette.

Hey Patrick, have you ever listened to VAST, especially the first album? I was just listening to it this evening. I was in a Metallica/VAST mood... :) Oh, and I too love KD Lang's Ingenue. Awesome album!

Yeah, it's funny to look at your music collection sometimes, huh? A friend once told me that mine was the only house he would go to and end up hearing Roy Orbison, Guns N' Roses, John Coltrane, and Frank Zappa in the same night! Good to be diverse...

I love "Ingenue" as well. If yer curious about k.d.'s country material, I recommend "Absolute Torch And Twang". Some amazing songs on there...like "Trail Of Broken Hearts".

:) :) :)

Must confess that I've never even heard of VAST.

Visual Audio Sensory Theater. If you are into Metallica, I would recommend you give it a listen. Very dark and moody. Done almost entirely by a young artist named Jon Crosby. Stick with the first album though, as he went pretty poppy on the second album. First album is almost perfection...
