Unknowingly, I purchased a Sony SCD-C222ES SACD player via the Internet without a U.S. warrantee. The player retails for $599 and I got it for $369. If the player needs to be repaired, I need to send it back to reliableaudiovideo.com. The company claims to have been in business for 12 years. However, if reliableaudiovideo.com goes out of business and if my player needs repair I am screwed. Oc course, if that happened I am not out a lot of cash.
I have 14 days to return it. What do you think, should I return it and buy a player with a U.S. warrantee for $230 more? How reliable are Sony products?

I wouldn'y purchase a product without the US warranty. I've had Sony gear over the years (DAT, Laserdisc, etc.) and service (by Sony) out of warranty, if necessary, is EXPENSIVE.
Did you get a price from Oade Bros? They had the best price on the XA777ES (which should be arriving by Fedex on Wednesday!). The are an authorized Sony dealer so you get t great price and the full US warranty.

Provided the player works when it arrives, I wouldn't worry about the warranty. For one thing, at $369, you got a fair deal; second, these players tend to last quite a long time. The CD player I use for night listening has been around for fifteen years; still works like a charm.
My Kenwood--the night listening receiver--has been around since 1990, and the current VCR is into its 6th year; none have needed anything done except for a little maintainence now and then like head or lens cleaning. What's more, if something's going to go bad or have bugs, it'll either turn up very early or very late(at least that's my experience). FWIW, my sister has a Sony VCR and DVD players, and both have been trouble-free since she bought them. Of course the stores she got them from offered her a 'service contract' you pay for through them, but I always advise people not to bother; if your VCR goes, at today's prices, cheaper to throw it in the trash and buy another. Same with CD or DVD players. But if you shop around and can find the player at around the same price(or less)with warranty, if it makes you feel more secure, go for it. But you'll still have to pay for shipping if it ever needs repairs, unless the company is in a generous mood or it's stipulated somewhere. Good luck!
