What is the best bedside CD Clock Radio unit for under $100. Just something to have on your nightstand to wake you up in the morning that also plays cd's well, with a headphone jack for sure!

Thanks

Although is not below $100, try to audition Cambridge SoundWorks'
Radio CD 740 (http://www.cambridgesoundworks.com/store/category.cgi?category=aud_radio&item=c174rczzz).

oops. Sorry. How about this:

A Tivoli Audio Model 3:

http://www.tivoliaudio.com/product.php?productid=145&cat=262&page=1

and a Model CD:

http://www.tivoliaudio.com/product.php?productid=146&cat=&page=1

At around $400.00, probably a *bit* more than what you wanted to spend, but I doubt you'd have many complaints . . .

This is a tough one at the price point you've set. When you set your sights to under $100, about the only name out there is Sony. I've not heard any other of these cheaper CD/Clock radios that put out decent sound.

FWIW, I recently bought my daughter the previous version of this Sony model (http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start?ProductSKU=ICFCD843V&Dept=audio&CategoryName=pa_Radio_CDClockRadio), and I chose this one by listening to a whole lot of crappy clock radios... Tinny, flat-sounding clock radios.

I see that Sony has a higher-end model now, the ICF-CD863V (http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start?ProductSKU=ICFCD863V&Dept=audio&CategoryName=pa_Radio_CDClockRadio). See if you can find a store that sells clock radios and compare them.

Oh, one more thing... I'm done with JVC small electronics. A few years back, I bought a nice-sounding CD/Clock radio from JVC. It died in less than a year. I'd avoid that name brand for now.

BTW, I do like those Cambridge Soundworks CD/Clock radios but man, are they expensive! Even in their outlet (http://www.bestspeakerdeals.com/store/category.cgi?category=bgd_rad&item=c174rcnb), they're $320. Ouch.

In looking around the web. the Panasonic RC-CD600 system sounds like it has some fans. One reviewer even compared it to a Nakamichi clock radio, a model I once owned. The Nakamichi was the best-sounding clock radio I've ever heard.

Well...maybe a "best" radio cd player for under $100 is pie in the sky or maybe he might be able to pick a used unit for around $100. Dah!

Thanks for the help guys!

The reason I wanted under $100 was because I simply just need something to wake me up in the morning that tells time, and also allows me to listen to a cd with my headphones on while going to sleep. I don't need a radio...heck I don't even need it to have speakers! Oh, and I also would like it to look streamlined and fit on my nightstand without being too bulky. :D I'm very demanding, huh?

Actually, the hard part about shopping for this is making sure it has a headphone jack. It's hard to tell, and sometimes it's not in the description.

Nakamichi no longer makes clock radios and when they did, they were expensive. I have no idea what the model numbers were, but someone is selling a similar unit to mine on eBay here (http://cgi.ebay.com/NAKAMICHI-TM-1-TM-2-CLOCK-RADIO-AM-FM-STEREO_W0QQitemZ150026196902QQihZ005QQca tegoryZ50614QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmd ZViewItem) and it says they model number(s) were TM-1 (TM-2 was a companion module). Mine was black.

I loved that clock radio, but it didn't play CDs. They later came out with a CD/Clock radio but by then I had bought a Sony unit and sold the Nakamichi.

The only thing I didn't like about this Nakamichi was that there was only three fixed volume settings for the alarm and even the lowest setting was way too loud for me. Luckily, there was a slow ramp up to this volume so I could shut it off before it blew me out of bed, but I had to be quick. I often over-slept my alarm in those days. :)

But the sound... oh, it sounded beautiful. What a great radio.

I have the original Cambridge Soundworks CD-88. You could pick one up used for around $100. It blows the Bose away.

That Cambridge CD-88 does look like a good bet, but all the reviews I've read say the cd player has major problems in the longevity department. About 75% of the reviews say it stops working during the first year.

Not nuts, just having a hard time with the $100 figure. It's hard to get good sound--and a headphone jack--at that price point. What I'm saying is that we are being realistic.

I realize that spending $350 on a clock radio may seem excessive to some people, but this is a music forum and I'd think most of the members are willing to spend a little more for better sound. On the other hand, there are people that are willing to spend that kind of dough for bad sound in a clock radio--witness the Bose Wave Radio.

Go to Wal-Mart and by their Durabrand stereo CD-clock radio for $19.74. It sounds pretty good, though little or no bass.

You can by 5 of them and spread them around the room for surround sound when you wake up.
