Is there any sonic or construction differences between the early 61/62 MC-240's and the late 67/68 models?

Probably a few circuit changes along the way, but sonically they sound the same (to me).

Thanks Steve! I'm in the market and want to know what to look for.

Look for clean as possible, no rust, no digs or bangs, etc. (signs of a hard life).

Look inside. Make sure no mods or tampering or weirdness in there (leaking caps, etc.)

Yes, I've learned from your previous posts! I want to get a NM one so if and when I want to sell it, It wont be a problem. I hoping to find one with at least some vintage tubes in it.

You can find vintage tubes here and there!

Try finding and using Steve's only tube with the built in "breath of Life", the Telefunken 12AX7 in that amp. They are pretty tough, so NOS is not a necessity. I think it uses three (I'm not at home so I can't check).

If you have problems finding these, let me know. I have a "supplier" who may be willing to part with a few. :)

And GE 6L6's are the preferred power tube! :)

You'll love this amp - I do!

Righto!

And Dean, make sure that the black lettering on the chrome is all there. This is a necessity for later resale, especially overseas!

Update: I managed to purchase a NM early 240 today with a cage, Phillips output tubes and Telefunken smaller tubes. I got it for a pretty good deal and should have it by next thursday. I report back with how I like it!
