View Full Version : How can these possibly work?

I'm extremely open to trying different things but I think these 3 items are way over the top. Have you, or do you know anyone who has tried these out?

I've read about the clocks you plug into a receptacle but not these.
Here is a snipet form the webpage:
"The Clever Little Clock is a small, battery-powered alarm clock that has been extensively modified using a number of highly-specialized techniques. The Clever Little Clock does not plug into the wall and has no direct or indirect influence on the audio signal -- not on house wiring, audio components, cables, interconnects, power cords or acoustic waves. Yet the Clock has a pronounced affect on the sound produced by all digital and analog playback systems. In addition, all video systems/formats in the house will be improved by placing one or two clocks in the listening room; the video picture will be clearer, with better contrast and color saturation -- TV, cable TV, DVD, etc.

They offer a 30 day money back offer though.

V-A, I try to be open minded too, but this stuff is just too far out there for me. Wow

Timex Clock with a sticker resold as an imaginary tweak? Absolutely ridiculous! Perhaps if my neighbors painted their house a different color, it might improve the sound of my stereo. Yeah, if I believe that, then the Machina Dynamica definitely works. At least I already have two nice tweaks named Tom and Furby. When they (my two cats) join me for a listening session, not only does their placement absorb some unwanted resonances, but they occasionally add to the nostalgia of vinyl listening (especially when Furby snaps his claws on the nearby braided rug, giving a vinyl-like pop and click effect to my music).
Some of that stuff makes sense, though.... wall plug coverings that block RF noise, for example.

"While a Clever Little Clock can provide a remarkable improvement to the sound, a second clock in the room can be extraordinary."
Furthering this thought, when I purchased 2 dozen (24) for my listening space, I assumed I would be in sonic heaven. I found that the benefits really diminish after ~ 13 or 14 little clocks. Oh well, I'm only out about 5 grand.;)
Some people might say my money would be better spent on quality components, but anyone can do that. Not everyone knows about the little things like this, and that's what REALLY makes an audiophile.;)

That is the only one that might have some reason behind it.

I can't imagin the cover of my outlets would make any difference when that power goes straight to my Equitech power conditioner. I could be wrong but I don't think so. I haven't tried it so I am only speculating.....

I have to tell this story about outlets given that this thread is about wild stuff. Back in the 80's there was an outlet in our house that we never used. One day to do some minor repairs I plugged an electric drill into it and when I turn on the drill there was all kinds of sparks and popping coming out of the outlet, the circuit breaker blew. I unplugged the drill, checked it in another outlet and it was fine. I carefully took off the cover plate and the outlet was backed with dead bees. They had built a nest in it and I fried them all when I turned on the drill.

Boy, if I spent a bunch of money on these things and they didn't work, I'd really be ticked!
Oh, sorry. Back to our regularly scheduled programming.

well, i hate to bash the other guys, but right beneath the review, they reviewed a 600 dollar thing that "finalizes the part of your CD's" that weren't finalized at the factory....
Well, Im not a Ph.D in physics, but a CD you buy from your favorite music store is a Read ONLY device. you cant change what is on the cd because it is finished. There is no finalizing to be done. This only refers to the table of contents track on the cd, which if it was not finalized at the pressing plant, you wouldn't able to go to the different tracks on the cd.
Sorry, but these guys always come up with the most suspicious stuff, like that 1500 dollar coat rack that tunes the room too....
Funny reading though!

That comes from a different company entirely (Shakti), costs about two thirds of what you stated, and it impressed me when I heard it demonstrated. The host of this forum has written that he liked it.

Two guys are sitting in a bar. They start discussing the amazing ways in which gullible folks can be separated from their money, so of course the issue of audiophiles comes up. One says that he can get people to buy a timex clock with an orange sticker on it by promising it will make hi fi systems sound better. The other says he can raise even more money by selling a bottle full of pebbles with a similar promise. A bet was born. Please feel free to help the two guys resolve their bet.

Im with you on that....
As far as the coat rack goes, Steve is a good friend of mine, of whos talent I have the utmost respect, but we don't see eye to eye on that one. I still think he's the greatest though!!
I just tell people when they want to spend 500 or 5000 on the latest tweak, to spend it on more records instead, but that's just my take on things. however I do concur with the pet on your lap hypothesis. I know I enjoy the music more when my lakeland terrier hops up in my lap when Im listening.
Remeber, it's still a free country for a little while....

Jeff, I've heard that Lakeland Terriers' are the best at taming first order reflections. ;)

Plastic doesn't block RF. If that was your goal, you'd *want* metal plates.

What's this you say? And I thought my air freshener and night light made my system sound cleaner and gave it a glow...:sigh:

I read someone said that the Clever Little Crock worked like "a time machine". And he was being serious.
To me, this is the best way ever to scam someone out of money without robbing himself blind.

Have you tried painting a spot orange on them? That adds a lot of "air" and "sparkle" to recordings...

Well I don't know about every tweak listed on that site, but as for the stuff from Machina Dynamica, well the word chicanery comes to mind, as does the word fraud.
