While browsing through reviews of DVD-A players, I came across a few that had "Remaster" buttons on them. Being a member of this forum, it immediately made me suspicious.

Here is a commentary from an online review of the Panasonic RP82 Hi-Speed Progressive Scan DVD Audio/Video Player:

“Re-Master” function is supposed to improve the quality of sound of the regular CDs by converting them from 16bit/44kHz to 24bit/88 KHz and then applying one of the three available setting so it. "

Anyone know if it works? Or what it is? Seems sort of like upsampling to me.

I wonder if Steve Hoffman had anything to do with the "remaster" software development? Steve? ;)

(Just kidding, Steve. Mastering engineer at the push of a button! Hah! No offence, huh? )

Hi Gary,
Nothing to say except the switch sounds IFFY. Do we take it that you are in the market for DVD Audio? When's the party?

Haven't you bought your DVD-A player yet?:) Let us know which one you get. I'm in the market for one also and I know you've been doing a lot of research lately.

Gary,

This was discussed while you were on vacation and according to audiomixer who purchased the RP-82 (check page 3 here) it sounds incredibly close to SACD when run through an audiophile up-sampling DAC like Musical Fidelity's or MSB's up-sampling units. So to answer your original question yes it's up-sampling.
